Description

The company is a Fortune 10 business that works across nearly every part of healthcare, providing insights, products and services that help make quality care easier to reach and more affordable.

This role leads the software engineering organization for the value-based care data business. The director owns the vision and delivery of scalable data platforms, pipelines, data products, analytics and integrations.

The director sets technical direction for cloud data work and also oversees enterprise web and SaaS engineering, which supports end-to-end value-based care solutions. The role works with product, analytics, data science, clinical informatics, architecture, security and operations to turn strategy into dependable, measurable results.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical vision for the value-based care data ecosystem, covering cloud data platforms, lakehouse and warehouse designs, batch and streaming pipelines, shared data services and governed data products.
  • Plan and deliver multi-release roadmaps for value-based care workflows, quality measurement, performance reporting, risk and population insights and partner data exchange. Tie investment to product priorities, customer results, regulatory needs and business value.
  • Lead managers, architects, data engineers, analytics engineers and software engineers. Set clear ownership, strengthen technical leadership and build a disciplined, collaborative team that keeps improving.
  • Set standards for data contracts, lineage, observability, reconciliation, testing, metadata, incident handling and service-level objectives. Lead root-cause analysis and lasting fixes that improve accuracy, timeliness, reliability, security and auditability.
  • Stay hands-on in data architecture and key design choices. Apply modern tools and patterns, including Databricks, Spark, Python, SQL, Delta Lake, orchestration, event streaming, cloud services, AI/ML and automation, where they add clear value.
  • Deliver reusable, trusted data products and integrations across clinical, claims, quality, financial and operational areas. Support healthcare interoperability and partner exchange with suitable standards, APIs and event-driven designs.
  • Oversee how the data platform fits with enterprise web and SaaS applications. Guide teams on microservices, REST APIs, distributed systems, cloud-native work, CI/CD, security, scalability and production reliability.
  • Partner with product, clinical informatics, analytics, data science, architecture, QA, security, SRE, operations, customers and external partners. Agree on outcomes and priorities, and share strategy, delivery status, risks and decisions.
  • Recruit, grow and retain strong engineering and data talent. Coach software engineers, data engineers, architects and emerging leaders, and build a leadership pipeline. Encourage enthusiasm for technology, innovation, data quality and customer focus.
  • Make sure all development and data work follows healthcare regulations, privacy and security standards, data governance policies and the company's internal quality frameworks. Put governance in place for architecture standards, data stewardship, release management and risk controls.

Requirements

  • A degree, or experience that stands in for one. Usually 12+ years in professional work and 4+ years managing people.
  • 12+ years in technology, with real depth in data engineering, data platforms, analytics engineering or related fields. Include 4+ years in technical leadership over multiple teams or managers.
  • Deep experience designing and running enterprise-scale cloud data platforms, lakehouse and warehouse systems, batch and streaming pipelines, data models, reusable data products and secure data sharing. Strong working knowledge of Databricks, Apache Spark, Python, SQL, Delta Lake, orchestration, event streaming, metadata, lineage, observability and data quality controls.
  • Experience delivering data capabilities for value-based care, population health, quality measures, clinical analytics, claims, payer-provider exchange or related healthcare areas.
  • Proven work with enterprise web or SaaS platforms, including microservices, APIs, distributed systems, cloud-native design, containers, automated testing and CI/CD. This is required to lead integrated value-based care solutions but ranks below data engineering depth.
  • Experience leading and scaling engineering and data teams, managing managers, and building an inclusive, high-performing culture. Strong communication and stakeholder skills, including presenting technology and data strategy to executives and business leaders.
  • Strategic, analytical problem solving. Guide teams through complex technical and data problems, troubleshoot production issues, and make data-driven decisions that balance short-term needs with long-term platform health.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security, compliance, interoperability, data privacy and healthcare data ecosystems.
  • Strategic influence: bring cross-functional stakeholders and senior executives in line with business strategy.
  • Servant leadership: lead by example, stay hands-on, and empower teams while building trust, innovation and accountability.
  • Customer and business focus: understand customer needs, healthcare workflows, analytics needs and business drivers, and deliver measurable value and strong user experience.
  • Change management: drive organizational and technology change, introduce new processes and platforms, and guide teams through the transition.
  • Collaboration: build close working relationships across product, operations, clinical informatics, analytics, data science and other departments.
  • Genuine interest in technology and data: stay close to the work, take part in architecture and analytics discussions, and promote learning, experimentation and engineering excellence.
  • Preferred: working knowledge of HIPAA, PHI protection, data governance and healthcare interoperability standards.
  • Preferred: healthcare technology or regulated-industry experience, which is highly valued.
  • Preferred: a master's degree in a relevant technical field, such as M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or an MBA with a technical focus.
  • Preferred: prior leadership of data engineering teams in healthcare technology, value-based care, clinical analytics, payer-provider solutions or another regulated setting. Experience modernizing legacy data estates, adopting cloud lakehouse platforms and integrating data platforms with enterprise SaaS applications.
  • Preferred: financial acumen and portfolio management, including budgeting and ROI analysis for technology and data initiatives.
  • Preferred: experience managing relationships with third-party vendors, implementation partners and analytics service providers.
  • Preferred: experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Power BI, Tableau, enterprise reporting and the platforms listed above.
  • Preferred: a keen awareness of trends in software engineering, cloud, AI, ML, data engineering and healthcare analytics, with ongoing learning.
