Description

The company is a permanent home for software businesses serving specialized industries. It buys, grows, and holds companies for the long term, works worldwide, and helps portfolio companies modernize through shared AI expertise and operational discipline. Founded in 2016, it runs more than 120 portfolio companies across North and South America, Europe, and APAC, and has been on the Inc. 5000 list for six consecutive years. The company Foundation, endowed with $100 million in Banyan stock, uses technology to work toward a greener and more equitable world.

This is a senior technology role responsible for setting and evolving the enterprise architecture of Banyan HQ. You will own current-state and target-state architecture for the corporate technology stack and create the roadmaps, standards, and integration patterns that let an acquisition-driven, fast-growing organization scale without piling up complexity.

The company is becoming AI-native, meaning AI is designed into systems, data, workflows, and infrastructure from the outset rather than added later. This role leads that work, combining hands-on architecture across identity, collaboration, business systems, and data platforms with ownership of the AI infrastructure that makes agent-ready systems possible across HQ.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain current-state and target-state architecture for HQ systems, and build transition roadmaps that tie technology spending to business goals.
  • Set architecture principles, reference patterns, and technology standards, and run a light review process that guides decisions without slowing teams.
  • Design and oversee integrations across the core stack, including Microsoft 365 and collaboration suites, Okta, NetSuite, Salesforce, Slack, Zoom, and other SaaS platforms, keeping data flow reliable and system boundaries clean.
  • Work with the Director, Security to deliver the zero-trust network vision, architecting the platforms behind it, such as MDM, Zscaler VPN/ZTNA, and endpoint security, and building cloud-first, zero-trust, no-footprint principles into each decision.
  • Treat AI-native design as a standing principle: assess every new system, integration, and platform on how well it exposes data, APIs, and workflows to AI and agentic tools, not only on how it serves people.
  • Own the architecture of enterprise AI infrastructure, including model and API access such as Anthropic's Claude, MCP and connector ecosystems, orchestration and automation layers, and the identity, logging, and cost controls around them.
  • Work with the Lead AI Architect on the Consolidated Data Platforms, designing the data layer AI depends on: clean systems of record, defined data contracts, retrieval-ready knowledge sources, and permission-aware access so AI tools see only what their users may see.
  • Design business processes and integrations that AI agents can run or assist safely, with clear human-in-the-loop checkpoints, auditability, and rollback paths.
  • Work with Security and Legal to set guardrails for enterprise AI use covering data classification, acceptable use, vendor and model evaluation, and monitoring, enabling adoption rather than blocking it by default.
  • Support AI enablement by turning successful pilots into reusable patterns and shared infrastructure, and help measure the value AI delivers across HQ functions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and vendors and recommend adopt, hold, or retire, treating AI capability and readiness as a primary criterion.
  • Lead the consolidation of overlapping tools and platforms, weighing cost, risk, and complexity.
  • Maintain architecture documentation and system-of-record diagrams so leadership and delivery teams stay aligned.
  • Work with IT, Security, and Finance on capacity, licensing, and total cost of ownership, including AI platform usage and spend.
  • Contribute to the enterprise technology strategy alongside the Head of IT, the Director, Security, and the Lead AI Architect.
  • Explain architecture to executives in business terms, covering value, risk, and trade-offs.
  • Build an architecture-aware, AI-forward culture in which teams understand the reasoning behind standards and default to good decisions.
  • Mentor IT staff on architecture thinking, AI fluency, and best practices.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, plus 8+ years of progressively responsible enterprise or solution architecture experience, ideally in SaaS or high-growth companies.
  • A track record of creating current-state and target-state architectures and transition roadmaps that senior executives have endorsed.
  • Demonstrated experience architecting for enterprise AI adoption, including LLM platforms and APIs, agentic and automation frameworks, retrieval and knowledge architectures, and the identity, security, and cost controls around them.
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or Zachman; certification is preferred but not required.
  • Strong experience with Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure and with modern SaaS-first, API-driven architectures.
  • Hands-on familiarity with identity and integration platforms, such as Okta or a similar IdP, iPaaS or middleware, and ERP and CRM systems like NetSuite and Salesforce.
  • A solid understanding of data architecture as the base for AI, including data quality, contracts, lineage, and permission-aware access.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain architecture in business terms and earn the trust of executive leaders.
  • Collaborative and pragmatic, and comfortable working at pace in a fast-moving environment.
