Senior Test Engineer

Description

The company builds embedded systems, edge devices, and network system products and needs a senior test engineer to plan and run end-to-end testing across them.

You will act as a technical lead, designing scalable test suites with current automation frameworks and carrying out system testing and checks of security controls.

The role is remote, though you may need to travel to customer sites in VA and to field sites when required.

Responsibilities

• Create test plans, methods, and scenarios covering functional, performance, reliability, security, and Military Standard compliance needs.
• Build and maintain automated test suites that scale across unit, multi-unit, and system levels.
• Run containerized test environments with tools such as Docker and Kubernetes so test runs are dependable and repeatable.
• Connect automated tests to CI/CD pipelines on platforms such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
• Carry out lab validation, hardware and software testing, and field site assessments, running several systems in parallel.
• Gather qualitative and quantitative data on prototype performance, reliability, and security to guide repeated improvements.
• Find, isolate, and record complex defects, analyse root causes, and track each defect through its lifecycle with developers.
• Write objective test evidence, metrics, formal reports, and performance summaries on request to show readiness for operation and release.
• Follow federal compliance rules, security practices, version control, and quality assurance practice throughout the test lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a closely related field.
• At least 5 years of professional work in system integration and testing.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and scaling current test automation frameworks.
• Strong programming and scripting skills in Python or Bash.
• Deep working knowledge of Linux.
• Proven experience with Agile development, user interface analysis, defect lifecycle management, and technical troubleshooting.
• A track record of working well with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and outside stakeholders.
• Clear speaking skills, including leading customer briefings, outreach, and user training.
• Strong writing skills, turning complex system analysis into clear technical reports, QA metrics, test evidence, and practical recommendations.
• U.S. citizenship and an active Top Secret security clearance.
• Desired: experience with CI/CD concepts and methods, including building and maintaining automated test pipelines on GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
• Desired: experience with Kubernetes platforms such as Rancher or EKS, and with Docker for test execution and application deployment.
• Desired: familiarity with security scanning, vulnerability management tools, and validation of cybersecurity controls.

Conditions

Remote work, with travel to customer sites in VA and to field sites as needed.

The estimated salary range is $155,000.00 to $170,000.00, depending on experience and technical skill set.
