The company is building its quality practice from scratch, and this is its first dedicated QA hire. Right now developers and the product team do the testing.
The mobile app is written in React Native and released on iOS and Android.
You will begin with manual testing on both platforms, then set up automation: UI and UX regression tests, plus test fixtures that imitate point-of-sale (POS) terminals so testing no longer depends on physical hardware for each cycle.
Much of the automation work uses TypeScript and Node.js, so coding, debugging and building tools will be central.
There is no QA team yet, so you will work closely with engineering and can shape the testing approach, tools and quality metrics.
The role suits a curious, self-driven person who learns quickly, takes ownership early and wants to define what QA looks like here.
Growth path: you will design a scalable React Native UI automation framework, build mocks and simulators for hardware and payment integrations, learn where platform-specific bugs originate, gain exposure to debugging distributed systems alongside engineers, set QA standards, and move toward a senior or lead quality role, including helping hire and onboard future team members.
Responsibilities
Write the company's first formal end-to-end manual test plans and run them on iOS and Android for new features, bug fixes and release candidates.
Turn product requirements, designs and user stories into clear, reusable test cases and keep them in a living test library.
Log defects with precise reproduction steps, state whether each one affects one platform or both, and check fixes with developers.
Use Node.js and TypeScript tooling to debug problems, read logs and API traffic, and find root causes.
Run exploratory testing to find edge cases, device and OS version differences, and usability problems.
Help set baseline QA processes, including bug reporting standards, release checklists and test documentation.
Start building automated UI and UX regression tests for the React Native app.
Build test fixtures and mock services in TypeScript and Node.js that simulate POS terminal behavior, reducing dependence on physical hardware.
Evaluate and recommend testing tools and frameworks, and add automated tests to the CI/CD pipeline over time.
Work with engineers and product managers in project planning, standups and release readiness reviews.
Requirements
Required: hands-on programming in TypeScript or JavaScript and Node.js, including writing scripts and small services, working with async code, using npm and debugging with logs. Coursework, internships, bootcamps and personal projects all count.
Required: working familiarity with React and React Native, including components, props, state, hooks and how a UI renders, enough to understand app behavior and common bug sources. A small React Native project, personal or from a course, is good preparation.
Required: a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Required: understanding of the software development lifecycle and core QA concepts, such as test plans, test cases, regression and smoke testing, and the bug lifecycle.
Required: strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problems.
Required: self-motivation and comfort with ambiguity, since you will often work out the approach yourself rather than follow an existing playbook.
Required: clear written and verbal communication, and the confidence to raise quality concerns with engineers and product stakeholders.
Required: experience with React Native tooling such as Expo, Metro or React Native debugging tools.
Required: experience with mobile UI automation frameworks such as Detox, Maestro or Appium (WebdriverIO).
Required: experience with JavaScript or TypeScript testing tools such as Jest, Vitest or React Native Testing Library.
Required: experience testing mobile apps on iOS and Android devices, simulators and emulators, such as Xcode Simulator and Android Studio.
Required: experience with Node.js servers or frameworks such as Express or Fastify, and with building or consuming REST APIs, WebSockets or mock servers.
Required: experience with Git and basic version control workflows.
Required: familiarity with bug tracking and test management tools such as Jira or TestRail.
Required: familiarity with API tools such as Postman.
Required: interest in or exposure to payments, POS systems or hardware integrations.
Required: familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Bitrise or EAS.
