Description

The company has spent more than 25 years building graphics, PC gaming, and accelerated computing technology, and is now applying AI to a new generation of computers, robots, and self-driving cars.

The team is looking for a senior system software engineer with a solid background in Linux systems programming, systems administration, and technical support. The role mixes software development, low-level system fixes, and direct support for internal or customer-facing environments.

You will design and maintain Slurm, which is written in C, work through difficult system problems, and partner with other engineers to keep Slurm running well and efficiently. The ideal person can write efficient, reliable, maintainable code, analyze system performance, and support production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, improve, and optimize software components written in C.
  • Build and upkeep system-level and application-level code for Slurm, covering networking, system, and device components.
  • Find and fix complex Slurm problems affecting reliability and performance.
  • Write clean, well-documented code that meets industry standards.
  • Work with Operations, Infrastructure, and Deployment teams.
  • Give hands-on technical support to internal teams or external customers.
  • Create automated tests that protect software reliability and catch regressions.
  • Keep up with developments in C, compilers, build systems, and related tools.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of professional C development experience and a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A firm grasp of memory management, pointers, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience with debugging tools such as GDB and with performance profiling.
  • A solid understanding of Linux kernel interfaces, system calls, and file systems, including work with Automake.
  • An understanding of software development lifecycles and agile methods, plus strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience working in an environment that prioritizes quality and reliability.
  • Experience with containers and GPU technologies.
  • A curious, self-driven attitude and a willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Optional: experience with C and other low-level languages, a background in system administration or high performance computing.
  • Optional: experience with the Slurm Workload Manager or other HPC scheduling systems.
  • Optional: knowledge of operating system internals or how hardware and software interact.
  • Optional: contributions to open-source C projects are a plus.
