The company makes embedded semiconductors for automotive, industrial, infrastructure and IoT products, and this principal EDA/CAD engineer role sets technical direction for its worldwide engineering compute and CAD infrastructure.
The job mixes hands-on engineering with architecture and day-to-day operational ownership. It covers Linux compute, engineering workspaces, project provisioning, LSF, EDA license servers, Perforce, monitoring and automation.
You will work with engineering, CAD and IT/IS colleagues to build environments that scale, stay reliable and behave the same way across sites, supporting semiconductor development.
Responsibilities
Lead the technical direction of EDA compute across the globe, and support both interactive and batch workloads.
Build and maintain Linux engineering environments, and work with IT/IS on compute, storage, networking and server needs.
Plan capacity and draft technical roadmaps for infrastructure, and troubleshoot difficult compute and environment faults.
Automate tasks to make the platform more reliable and to cut manual administration.
Own the architecture of projects and workspaces, and build the mechanisms that create and initialise them.
Support project configuration, and build links between that configuration, PDKs, EDA tools and engineering workflows.
Create extensible options that let project teams customise their setup while staying on a supported platform standard.
Cut the manual work involved in project setup and across the project lifecycle.
Lead the technical side of the global EDA license-server estate, and define standard ways to deploy and administer licenses.
Build and maintain automation for license updates, validation and audits.
Write robust Python, shell and other automation for CAD infrastructure, and maintain the engineering utilities and infrastructure scripts.
Automate configuration generation, provisioning, monitoring and administration.
Connect CAD infrastructure to Jenkins/CI and service-management workflows where it makes sense.
Improve observability, auditability and maintainability of infrastructure services.
Build dashboards and metrics for engineering infrastructure, and track compute and license usage.
Find capacity, performance and reliability risks, and help infrastructure teams plan capacity ahead.
Create ways to spot wasteful use of shared engineering resources.
Help shape the supported Linux OS strategy for EDA, and coordinate EDA tool compatibility with IT/IS.
Support moves between Linux platform generations, and define clear engineering requirements for infrastructure standards.
Keep engineering application needs separate from who operationally owns the infrastructure.
Maintain architecture and operations documentation for critical CAD infrastructure, including scripts, configuration, dependencies and recovery steps.
Act as the escalation point for hard infrastructure problems, and train CAD engineers and IT/IS staff so the work does not depend on single experts.
Set up sustainable primary and backup ownership for critical services, and design resilience and failover strategies.
Work with regional CAD teams and IT/IS to standardise license infrastructure globally, and build license capacity monitoring and reporting.
Provide EDA expertise for LSF compute, and work with IT/IS on LSF architecture, provisioning and resource sharing.
Build ways to track compute usage and efficiency, and link project environments to batch compute.
Automate the detection of inefficient or problematic workloads, and contribute to compute capacity planning.
Provide engineering-side expertise for Perforce server infrastructure, and support the Perforce architecture used by semiconductor teams.
Work with IT/IS on server lifecycle, availability, storage, backup and operational ownership.
Help administer and troubleshoot engineering Perforce environments, build automation and monitoring for them, and keep their documentation current.
Requirements
Significant experience in EDA/CAD infrastructure engineering within semiconductor development.
Strong Linux or Unix skills.
Strong scripting and automation skills, ideally in Python and shell.
Experience with LSF or a similar distributed compute environment.
Experience with enterprise version control and data management systems such as Perforce Helix and IPLM.
Experience managing engineering projects and workspaces.
An understanding of the compute, storage and network needs of EDA environments.
Experience with EDA licensing, including FlexNet-based environments.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
Experience building production-quality engineering automation.
Ability to work across global engineering, CAD and IT/IS organisations.
Strong skills in writing technical documentation and transferring knowledge.
Highly desirable: Perforce server administration and architecture experience.
Highly desirable: LSF administration or integration experience.
