The company is a global technology provider to manufacturers, focused on making their operations more productive, sustainable and agile. It has more than 28,000 employees and its customers include food, medicine, water and green mobility businesses.
This role sits in the Autonomous Operations group, where you will lead technical architecture for industrial transformation work and consulting engagements. You will provide technical leadership, mentor solution consultants and influence cross-functional teams. You will work with AO consultants to turn business priorities into future operating architectures and practical roadmaps, bringing together deep technical knowledge, strategic thinking and executive communication to link industrial AI and automation advances to Rockwell and partner capabilities.
Responsibilities
Solution design and architecture
Support discovery, qualification and positioning by identifying where Autonomous Operations can create credible operational and business value in strategic opportunities.
Design architectures that link business value drivers and operational decisions to capabilities spanning field devices, control, industrial data, manufacturing operations and enterprise systems.
Decide where intelligence, optimisation and decision execution belong across control, edge and cloud, and explain the trade-offs in latency, reliability, cybersecurity, human oversight and integration with existing operations.
Assess how agentic AI, adaptive control, software-defined automation, orchestration, and physical AI or robotics could change client architectures. Separate what is available today from emerging technology and roadmap dependencies.
Map required capabilities to Rockwell and partner technologies, including control, industrial data, MES and production logistics platforms. Define data models and integration patterns, identify gaps, and sequence a feasible roadmap that fits Rockwell strategy.
Stakeholder engagement
Work alongside AO consultants throughout substantive client engagements to shape the transformation thesis, test technical assumptions and turn priority business problems into architectural choices.
Lead architecture discussions with CTOs and senior operations, engineering and IT leaders. Explain complex technical choices in business terms and show how Rockwell capabilities deliver the outcomes required.
Implementation feasibility and risk
Work with delivery leads to check feasibility, scope, dependencies, estimates and technical risks before commitments go to clients.
Turn blueprints into implementation work packages and guide delivery architects and engineering teams through execution.
Define requirements for data ingestion, contextualisation, analytics and integration with control and operational workflows, using specialists for detailed implementation.
Set clear limits on automated decisions, human intervention and closed-loop execution, including validation and assurance requirements.
Agree architecture and engineering standards with delivery teams covering testing, deployment, maintainability and secure integration.
Keep technical continuity across consulting, pre-sales and delivery, resolving architectural issues and assumptions as the solution develops.
Confirm proposed solutions meet industrial requirements for scalability, performance, cybersecurity and operational reliability.
Technical leadership
Build reusable functional blueprints and reference architectures for priority industries and business functions, starting from existing Rockwell architectures and extending them with client lessons and emerging technology.
Mentor architects and engineers through joint client work, architecture reviews and knowledge sharing, building their strategic and executive advisory skills.
Build relationships with Rockwell technical communities and product teams. Bring specialist expertise into engagements and feed client needs and architectural gaps back into portfolio discussions.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field is preferred.
Typically 6 to 10 years of relevant experience in industrial solution architecture, consulting or systems integration, including leading complex client architecture engagements that support consultative opportunity development.
Deep expertise in at least one of the areas below, with broad understanding of the others: industrial operations (control, MES/MOM, production logistics, asset performance); industrial data (edge connectivity, OT-IT protocols, time-series data, contextualisation, data models, governance, analytics); architecture (OT, edge, cloud, enterprise integration, cybersecurity); autonomy (AI, optimisation, orchestration, robotics, closed-loop execution); implementation (architecture assurance, deployment patterns, validation and implementation feasibility).
Evidence of strategic architecture thinking, executive communication and turning business problems into feasible technical choices, plus experience coordinating specialists, leading technical teams and mentoring colleagues.
Preferred: experience building transformation blueprints or technology roadmaps alongside business and industry consultants.
Preferred: familiarity with Rockwell and partner technologies such as FactoryTalk Data Mosaix, FactoryTalk Optix, Cognite Data Fusion, Plex MES or OTTO autonomous mobile robots. Expertise across every platform is not required.
Preferred: experience with cloud and edge architectures, APIs, industrial integration patterns and data modelling.
Preferred: practical experience with Python, SQL or integration services, enough to assess implementation choices and guide engineering teams.
Preferred: experience with time-series data, contextualisation and industrial data governance.
Preferred: experience in mining, food and beverage, or another relevant industrial sector. Industry consultants provide complementary business and process expertise.
Preferred: relevant cloud, architecture or industrial platform certifications.
Preferred: experience supporting both consultative opportunity development and implementation delivery.
Preferred: applied experience in industrial AI, agentic systems, advanced process control, orchestration or robotics, or physical AI, with an understanding of validation and deployment constraints.
Preferred: experience designing industrial cybersecurity, access management and reliable integration across OT and IT environments.
Preferred: a record of building reusable architectures, developing colleagues and collaborating across technical disciplines.
Preferred: experience in asset performance management, production optimisation or autonomous production logistics.
Curiosity and independent technical judgement about how industrial autonomy will evolve, with the ability to challenge assumptions and turn that thinking into credible architectures and achievable roadmaps.
