Senior Software Engineer

Description

The company builds and manufactures high-performance unmanned systems for the US defense industrial base. Its drones have been tested in combat, and it works at startup speed toward large-scale production.

The team is small in its approach to ownership: hands-on work aimed at closing the gap between design and deployment, with capability reaching warfighters in months rather than years.

You will join the Application team, which builds mission planning and control software, desktop tools, and the links between the company's systems and external command-and-control and situational-awareness systems. You will own large pieces from design through production, and the software has to keep working when the network drops or surrounding systems change.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain applications and integrations for operators and engineers, including mission planning, control, configuration and monitoring tools, and links to external command-and-control and situational-awareness systems
• Build desktop and web applications that run on Windows, Mac, and Linux
• Take ownership of the data models, APIs, and external specifications your software relies on, even when they are incomplete or changing
• Make software behave correctly when connectivity is intermittent or gone
• Build test harnesses and simulators so software can be verified without live partner systems or hardware
• Write unit and integration tests, and work with the test organization on system and field testing

Requirements

• You bring 7+ years of experience designing, building, and deploying production software
• You are deeply skilled in TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust, or another modern application language
• You have owned significant software end to end, from design through production and after launch
• You have built applications for cross-platform desktop (such as Electron or Qt) or modern web used by real users
• You understand networking well, including TCP/UDP, message framing and serialization, and designing for unreliable or high-latency links
• You have worked through interfaces you did not control, such as protocols, message formats, and APIs owned by another team or organization
• You have built test harnesses or simulators for systems you could not test directly
• Also a strong plus: production experience in more than one language
• Also a strong plus: experience with the TAK ecosystem, including ATAK plugins (Java/Kotlin), WinTAK plugins (C), TAK Server, and Cursor on Target
• Also a strong plus: experience with MAVLink or other drone and robotics protocols
• Also a strong plus: experience with military or defense C2 or situational-awareness systems
• Also a strong plus: experience with geospatial and mapping work, including coordinate systems, datums, and map rendering
• Also a strong plus: experience with real-time operator interfaces showing live telemetry, video, and many-vehicle displays
• Also a strong plus: experience with embedded or device-facing software that talks directly to hardware
• Also a strong plus: Android development experience
• Also a strong plus: you fly FPV, RC, or drones generally

Conditions

Base salary range: $180,000 to $252,000 USD. This is an estimate based on many compensation factors, covers base salary only, and the actual figure may vary with experience, education or training, critical skills, and business needs

The company posts external titles such as Engineer II or Senior I to reflect true level and pay. Internal titles use the base title only, such as Engineer or Senior Engineer, depending on the role
