Description

This is a hybrid role with an average requirement of 2 days per week in an HPE office. The position is for a senior engineer on the storage team, working on the design, development and debugging of software, including operating systems, compilers, networks, databases and internet-related tools, and sometimes on hardware compatibility or hardware design.

The role is a subject matter expert position. Your work affects technical components of products, solutions or services on an ongoing basis, and you make significant independent decisions about how to reach goals. You may also lead and mentor others.

The company describes itself as the global edge-to-cloud company, helping customers connect, protect, analyze and act on data and applications wherever they run.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build software for the HPE Alletra Enterprise Storage Platform, covering storage services, data path components and systems infrastructure.
  • Write scalable, highly concurrent code in modern C++ on Linux.
  • Find and fix functional, reliability and performance problems using profiling and diagnostic tools.
  • Help shape distributed storage features that prioritise availability, data integrity and operational efficiency.
  • Work with software, performance, platform and quality engineers to ship robust product features.
  • Take part in design, code and test reviews to keep software maintainable and high quality.
  • Build automated tests and validation frameworks that improve product quality and confidence in releases.
  • Assess and adopt new technologies and methods that improve storage capabilities and engineering productivity.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to technical discussions and knowledge sharing across the team.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems or an equivalent field.
  • Typically have 6-10 years of experience.
  • Have extensive experience with several software design tools and languages.
  • Know C++ well, including the STL, Boost, templates, object-oriented concepts and Python.
  • Have experience with systems, distributed or embedded software.
  • Understand Linux and how the operating system, CPU, memory and system architecture interact.
  • Have worked with multithreaded code, including mutexes and locks.
  • Know algorithms and data structures, and can write performant code.
  • Can use debugging and profiling tools such as GDB and perf.
  • Experience with file systems, storage, data path work or systems infrastructure code is a strong plus. Knowledge of Kubernetes is a big plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Have experience with the overall architecture of software systems for products and solutions, including integrating software that runs on several platform types.
  • Have experience designing test methods and processes, including writing and running test plans, debugging, and writing test scripts and tools.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and speech, including explaining product architectures and design proposals and negotiating options with senior management. Fluent in English and the local language.
