Senior Software Engineer, Hardware In Loop (HIL)

Description

The company leads the US drone market and works on autonomous flight, a core technology for drones and aerial mobility. The team combines AI research, hardware and software product development, operations, and a focus on customers.

This role owns the embedded hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) system from end to end: the Python test framework, its CI integration, the physical test stations, and the devices mounted on them. You will set its technical direction, keep it reliable as products and tests multiply, and make it straightforward for other teams to write tests.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and roadmap of the HIL test framework and how it connects to CI.
• Design and build new test stations and fixtures, and bring new products onto the HIL.
• Work with firmware, platform, and product teams to turn their validation needs into dependable automated tests.
• Create new critical use cases that extend hardware validation and development to more teams.
• Triage failed runs, tell infrastructure faults apart from product regressions, and send real bugs to the owning team.

Requirements

• Strong Python skills, with clean, well-tested code and sensible abstraction boundaries.
• Software engineering experience, including building or owning test or CI infrastructure.
• Solid Linux systems skills: networking, USB/udev, systemd, Docker, and shell.
• Hands-on embedded Linux experience: flashing, bootloaders and recovery modes, serial consoles, and debugging boards that won't boot.
• Clear communication and the ability to support many engineering teams.
• Experience with or interest in hardware bring-up and system debugging.
• FAA Part 107 certification is strongly encouraged within your first 60 days and is required for certain positions.

Conditions

The annual base salary range is $190,000 to $250,000. Pay within that range depends on skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience. Compensation for certain positions may vary by location.
