Description

The company makes scheduling, time tracking, HR management and payroll software for hourly teams, and over 150,000 small businesses use it. Together its customers have tracked over a billion hours for more than 2M workers, and the company says it is just getting started.

The role sits on the Core Product team, which builds Scheduling, HR Management (HRM) and Payroll. The team works with Product, Design and Data, and the job is at E3 level, leading projects from start to finish.

The company is AI-first. The team values customer focus, fast learning, owning your impact, mastering your craft and winning together.

Interview process: a conversation with the Talent Acquisition team (Mavel W.), a conversation with the hiring manager (Ramona S.), one or more technical interviews, and meetings with cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and launch features across Scheduling, HRM and Payroll, then keep them running in production.
  • Write reliable, testable, maintainable code, especially where errors matter, from hours worked to pay.
  • Solve problems at the points where Scheduling, Time Tracking, HRM and Payroll connect, so customers don't notice the seams.
  • Keep close to the business owners and workers who use the product, and fix their worst pain points first.
  • Use AI and agentic tools every day for design, code, tests and reviews, and share the methods that work.
  • Give detailed code reviews, improve engineering standards and mentor the engineers around you.
  • Work with PMs, Designers and Data to decide what to build and how to learn quickly.
  • Lead the building of components and services, own estimates and delivery, and help junior engineers grow.

Requirements

  • Solid software engineering fundamentals and a track record of shipping production software customers rely on.
  • Ruby on Rails experience is ideal.
  • Clean design, solid tests and sound trade-off reasoning that you can show.
  • Comfort working at high speed, where shipping and iterating quickly matters.
  • Clear communication with Product, Design and Data.
  • Experience with payroll, scheduling, workforce management or similarly complex business areas is a plus.
  • Daily use of AI tools to improve your own work, with evidence of the impact.
  • Lead implementation of components or services and deliver projects end to end.
  • Own estimation, execution and ongoing improvement.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Rebuild your own workflows with AI to speed up work and raise quality, and measure the results.
  • Share AI workflows that work with your team and help others try them.
  • Recognise when AI adds real leverage and when it adds noise, and keep human judgment over every change you ship.
  • Apply even if you do not meet 100% of the qualifications.
