Description

The company builds a global digital sports platform for fans, spanning commerce, collectibles, and betting and gaming, so fans can buy licensed gear, collect trading cards and memorabilia, and place bets.

It reaches over 100 million fans and about 900 sports properties, including leagues, teams, colleges, and retail partners, plus 2,500 athletes and celebrities and 200 exclusive athletes. It operates over 2,000 retail locations and employs more than 22,000 people.

The betting and gaming arm launched in 2021 and runs online and retail sports betting. Its online sportsbook reaches 95% of the addressable US online bettor market, its online casino is live in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, and it runs 22 retail sports betting locations, including the only sportsbook inside an NFL stadium, at Northwest Stadium.

The arm is headquartered in New York, with offices in Denver, Leeds, and Dublin.

The Accounts team sits in the shared services group of the betting and gaming arm. It owns the customer account lifecycle: registration, login, identity verification, geolocation, eligibility, and the responsible gaming controls that decide whether someone can play. Accuracy and customer trust guide the team, since customers entrust it with their money, identity, and personal data.

This hands-on Senior Software Engineer role focuses on building scalable, highly available, compliant Java services for the account lifecycle. You will own features end to end, solve hard integration problems, and work closely with product, compliance, and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain Java backend services with Spring Boot or a similar framework.
  • Ship features across registration, KYC, login and MFA, device registration, account management, tax reporting, the company's ID integration, and watchlist monitoring.
  • Build services that enforce regulatory and responsible gaming rules, including geolocation, state and self-exclusion, prohibited persons, loss limits, and eligibility.
  • Integrate with third-party identity, verification, geolocation, and compliance providers, designing for failure, retries, and data integrity.
  • Write scalable services backed by thorough unit and integration tests.
  • Shape architecture and design for APIs, event-driven systems, and data flows.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and join the weekly on-call rotation, adding to runbooks and post-mortems.
  • Work with product, technical program management, compliance, support, and client engineering to turn business and regulatory needs into technical solutions, and take part in sprint planning and agile delivery.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pairing.
  • Apply engineering practices such as CI/CD, testing, observability, feature flagging, and documentation, and reduce technical debt to improve reliability and maintainability.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering with Java.
  • A solid record building and supporting production Java backends with Spring Boot or a similar framework.
  • Experience building REST APIs and integrating distributed systems and data flows.
  • Experience with event-driven designs using Kafka or comparable messaging systems.
  • Hands-on work with AWS or a comparable cloud platform.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL data stores such as Postgres and MongoDB.
  • Experience using AI tools or coding assistants to boost engineering productivity.
  • Preferred: experience with identity and account systems (registration, authentication, MFA, OAuth2/OIDC), KYC, fraud, or payments.
  • Preferred: experience with compliance-driven systems such as geolocation, responsible gaming, or regulatory data handling.
  • Preferred: experience with highly available, regulated, or enterprise-scale applications.
  • A plus: experience with observability tooling such as Datadog and with operating services on call.
  • Strong troubleshooting, ownership, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and alongside cross-functional partners.

Conditions

Pay range: $144,000 to $180,000 USD.

Pay varies by country and state of residence, based on the company's Geographical Zones for betting and gaming. The range covers all zones, and the zone for the actual offer is confirmed later.

This is a full-time, US-based remote role.

Interviews and onboarding may include in-person parts, such as onsite interviews or a multi-day cultural immersion in New York City for full-time, non-seasonal hires. Specific travel and participation depend on role and location, and your recruiter will guide you at each stage.

The company never asks candidates for money, banking details, or sensitive personal information during interviews.
