Senior Software Engineer, Fulfillment

Description

The company handles grocery delivery, serving customers who rely on it for groceries and household goods, and offering shoppers flexible earnings through the company Personal Shoppers.

The Logistics Platform team runs the execution layer of the company's fulfillment system worldwide, covering batching, routing, dispatch and shopper pay.

The role builds the platform that routes orders, assigns fulfillment tasks to shoppers, tracks fulfillment status and calculates shopper compensation. The aim is efficient work for shoppers, better value for retailers and consumer brands, and orders delivered on time and to customer satisfaction.

The team follows a flex-first approach, so you can work from home, an office or elsewhere, with regular in-person events.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain backend applications and systems for routing, task allocation, fulfillment tracking and shopper compensation.
• Lead technical design for high-impact projects and solve logistics problems across the consumer marketplace and enterprise areas by shipping features.
• Keep Tier-0 systems reliable and observable, with clear ownership.
• Drive platform best practices together with product, compliance and engineering stakeholders.
• Use AI-assisted tools and workflows to improve your own productivity and the team's, and mentor engineers toward higher standards for code quality, testing and operations.

Requirements

• Minimum qualifications: 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Minimum qualifications: fluency in at least one backend language, such as Ruby, Python or Go. Ruby experience is not required.
• Minimum qualifications: strong working knowledge of REST or RPC service and API design, databases, and system design patterns for distributed, scalable systems.
• Minimum qualifications: experience building and running asynchronous, event-driven systems in production.
• Minimum qualifications: excellent communication skills and experience working in complex, highly collaborative cross-functional settings.
• Minimum qualifications: a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Preferred qualification: experience building software for fulfillment, logistics or e-commerce.
• Preferred qualification: experience with workflow orchestration or state machines.
• Preferred qualification: regular use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex.
• Preferred qualification: experience building systems subject to regulatory or financial compliance.

Conditions

This is a remote role. Pay depends on your permanent work location, and the company only hires in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia and Nova Scotia.

For candidates in Canada, the base pay range is $168,000 - $177,500 CAD.
