Senior Software Engineer – Data Integration Libraries (Java/Python)

Description

The team builds backend Java libraries and services that take varied data formats and convert them into one shared, reusable schema used by several applications across the organization.

This is a hands-on engineering role, mainly Java with some Python where needed. There is no UI work. The focus is on reliable libraries and integration services that handle data sources which change often.

The role also includes system administration: helping run and tune MongoDB, working in a Linux environment, and handling operational tasks such as server upgrades, RPM installs, service monitoring and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Design and build data ingestion and transformation logic.
• Create and maintain shared libraries for common data formats.
• Keep performance and scalability in mind.
• Help shape decisions on data modeling and integration patterns.
• Work through Git-based source control, code reviews, and ongoing improvements to development workflows.
• Manage and optimize MongoDB services.
• Upgrade servers, install RPMs, monitor services and fix environment issues on Linux systems.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of related experience.
• Deep Java experience, with working knowledge of Python.
• Strong grasp of varied data formats such as JSON, XML, CSV and custom structures.
• Hands-on experience running Linux and MongoDB in production.
• Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Comfort with both development and operations work.
• Technical training, a certification or a degree.
• Experience with Java, Python, Gradle, MongoDB development and administration, the MongoDB Java and Python drivers, Linux system administration and shell scripting, RPM tooling (yum, dnf, rpm), systemd, and Git (branching, pull requests, code reviews).
• Active TOP SECRET security clearance and US citizenship are required.
• Clearance level currently held: Top Secret SCI + Polygraph. Clearance level able to be obtained: Top Secret SCI + Polygraph. Public trust or other clearance: None.

Conditions

Based onsite in Hanover, Maryland, USA.

Full-time, 40 scheduled hours per week.

No travel required.

Regular requisition.

Pay is likely to fall between $162,037 and $219,227. This is not a guarantee; the final figure depends on experience, geographic location and possibly contract terms, and may fall outside this range.
