Description

The company runs OnStar, a connected services product that delivers safety, security, diagnostics, navigation and convenience features through mobile apps, a website and in-vehicle systems, all backed by cloud services and integrations at global scale.

The team is growing its Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) group in Dublin to keep the OnStar product line resilient, fast and scalable for millions of customers.

The company is looking for an experienced engineer with a strong SRE background, cloud operations experience and a track record of owning projects, to help build and strengthen reliability practices across customer-facing OnStar experiences and the services behind them.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable, fault-tolerant, observable infrastructure for OnStar mobile and web experiences, in-vehicle services, and the backend platforms and integrations behind them.
  • Push adoption of configuration management, infrastructure refactoring and testing frameworks to make systems more resilient.
  • Work with SRE, development and product teams to improve service reliability, deployment safety and incident response.
  • Advise on and help plan reliability standards for new OnStar capabilities, customer-facing releases and platform initiatives.
  • Help shape and roll out an observability approach using Prometheus, Grafana and Datadog, including automated alerting and actionable SLO dashboards.
  • Improve on-call practices, run blameless postmortems and lead root cause analysis to stop repeat failures.
  • Mentor engineers and help sustain a culture of extreme ownership and operational excellence.
  • Support compliance and privacy-focused engineering across connected services, which may extend into data retention and safety certification tooling.

Requirements

  • 6+ years in SRE, DevOps or systems engineering, including mentoring engineers and leading technical work at project level.
  • A record of building and running high-scale, cloud-native systems, ideally on AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • Hands-on skill with Kubernetes for container orchestration and deployment strategies, plus CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in Python, Go or Java, with a firm commitment to code review and readable code.
  • Experience leading cross-functional infrastructure projects, configuration strategy or internal tooling initiatives.
  • You can stay calm under pressure, whether you are debugging a live incident or weighing uptime against cost.
  • Experience in privacy engineering, data security or supporting compliance frameworks is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence, mentor and lead across varied technical teams.

Conditions

Hybrid role based in the Dublin SRE team: you are expected to report to the Limerick office three times per week at minimum, or as the business otherwise requires.

Equal opportunity: the company does not allow unlawful discrimination and works to build an inclusive workplace.

Candidates may be required to complete a role-related assessment and/or a pre-employment screening before starting, where applicable.

Benefits

  • The work is about helping customers rely on connected experiences. The team focuses on cutting-edge technology, sustainability and inclusive innovation, and your work will improve reliability across OnStar apps, web, in-vehicle services and their back-end systems.
  • Join the SRE team in Dublin to help run trusted OnStar experiences for millions of customers.
