Description

The Autonomous Vehicle Microcontrollers team builds the embedded platform software under autonomous vehicle systems, handling sensor communication, vehicle operation, observability, and system health.

This role owns moderate-scope software features, components, or sub-projects for MCU01, and covers the work from requirements and design through implementation, integration, testing, debugging, documentation, and release support.

You will work alongside systems, hardware, safety, cybersecurity, integration, and validation teams to ship production-quality embedded software.

The company is building self-driving technology.

Responsibilities

  • Find and reproduce software failures using logs, traces, debugger data, telemetry, test evidence, and controlled experiments.
  • Run structured root-cause analysis on crashes, memory faults, timing problems, race conditions, communication failures, watchdog resets, and unexpected state changes.
  • Design, build, integrate, and maintain embedded C software for multi-core microcontrollers.
  • Deliver moderate-scope features, enhancements, integrations, and defect fixes within your assigned component or subsystem.
  • Work across the automotive embedded stack, including BSP, BSW, middleware, RTOS services, drivers, and application software.
  • Write code that is maintainable, modular, efficient, and testable, following team coding standards.
  • Build robust handling for initialization, state transitions, communication errors, diagnostics, degraded operation, watchdog events, and fault recovery where relevant.
  • Assess how software changes affect interfaces, timing, memory, CPU use, configuration, and dependent components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related STEM field. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Ability to diagnose software issues using logs, traces, debuggers, test results, and other technical evidence.
  • 2+ years building and shipping production-quality embedded software.
  • Background in C embedded software development.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle practices, source control, code reviews, continuous integration, and issue tracking.
  • Experience with an RTOS such as QNX, FreeRTOS, or OSEK.
  • Strong communication skills, able to move between high-level and detailed discussions.
  • Nice to have: experience with robotics, autonomous vehicles, automotive embedded systems, or ADAS development.
  • Nice to have: experience with AUTOSAR.
  • Nice to have: experience in a safety-critical embedded software environment (ISO 26262, DO-178C, MIL-STD-882E).
  • Nice to have: experience with JIRA, DOORS NG, Confluence, GitHub, Lauterbach, or Visual Studio Code.
  • Nice to have: experience building software that scales to millions of instances and managing it.
  • Nice to have: ability to work under ambiguity, moving from quick code prototypes to long-term plans on short timelines.
  • Nice to have: 2+ years building and shipping production-quality embedded software.
  • Nice to have: Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related STEM field. Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
