Description

The company is building a fully in-house hands-free driver assistance platform that will debut on a new vehicle from its parent automaker in 2027, with the goal of making driving safer, less stressful and more enjoyable.

You would work alongside specialists in machine learning, robotics, cloud platforms, mapping, sensors and compute, test operations, and systems and safety engineering, all focused on changing how people relate to their vehicles.

The company is a subsidiary of the parent automaker but runs on its own, at startup pace. Headquarters are in Pittsburgh, with engineering centers in Dearborn, Mich., and Palo Alto, Calif.

The Embedded Software team builds hardware drivers, hardware safety monitoring, and vehicle interfaces for the autonomy system. This Senior Embedded Software Engineer role sits in the Sensor firmware team and covers embedded software for radar and lidar sensors, including their networking functions. • Design, build, and test high-performance C++ that runs on resource-constrained hardware
  • Design, build, and test solutions that meet functional safety standards
  • Work with suppliers and cross-functional hardware and systems engineers to deliver the product

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field plus 4+ years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 2+ years; or a PhD
  • 4 years of solid experience building embedded applications and systems in C++
  • Understanding of network communication, including protocols, physical layer needs, bandwidth characteristics, and configuration
  • Strong skills in software design, algorithms, problem solving, and analysis
  • Experience with multi-processor SoCs or similar embedded processors
  • Strong knowledge of network-based sensors such as radar and lidar
  • Track record of technical leadership in automotive or related fields, taking products to production
  • Preferred: experience building software for highly complex, safety-critical sensing systems
  • Desired: familiarity with embedded RTOS such as FreeRTOS or SafeRTOS, and/or Embedded Linux
