Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform (Autonomous Vehicles)

Description

Join the Autonomous Vehicles Data team as a senior software engineer. You will help design, build and maintain the data platforms that self-driving car development depends on.

The team's platform services support AV model training, data mining, labeling and replay.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of how key autonomy data services are rolled out and kept running.
• Define and track SLOs and SLIs, and lead the response to incidents and support requests.
• Work with ML and data engineers to turn their needs and pain points into requirements, then build self-serve tools and drive their adoption.
• Lead end-to-end technical projects, make the major technical decisions and weigh the trade-offs, and help shape the team's long-term roadmap.
• Take part in planning, code reviews and design discussions.
• Interview candidates, onboard new hires and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics or another relevant field.
• 5+ years building and supporting large-scale data platforms, including high-performance services that serve petabytes of data each week.
• Expert-level skill in Java, C++, Go or Python, with a record of designing robust distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience deploying and managing services on at least one major public cloud (Azure, GCP or AWS), using automation and observability.
• Experience making services more cost-efficient, faster and more reliable.
• Experience with architectures that span multiple languages, and with running systems through their full operational lifecycle.
• Preferred: experience implementing data processing frameworks such as Beam or Spark, and serving layers built for high throughput and low latency.
• Preferred: passion for self-driving technology and its potential impact on the world.
• Preferred: experience delivering 100+ petabyte-scale ingestion, processing and serving architectures.
• Preferred: experience with SQL engines and queries.

Conditions

Base salary range: $153,200 to $269,200. This is a good-faith estimate based on what a successful applicant might be paid under applicable state laws. The actual offer within that range depends on job-related factors and the candidate's geography.

Hybrid role: you are expected to work from a specific location at least 3 times a week, or at the frequency your manager sets.
