Description

The company is a global technology leader with more than 83,000 employees across five continents, including over 7,500 people in the UK.

It works across defence, space, aerospace and digital security, building technology for customers that helps protect national security and stability and delivers social value in the UK.

The team works in optronics and missile electronics, supplying technology for military, scientific and commercial use across air, land and sea, a field the company has developed for more than 130 years.

Career paths include moving from senior engineer into senior technical roles such as Software Architect or Technical Specialist, or into management as a Project Software Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical direction and ownership of software design.
  • Write mainly C++ code that follows design documents and interface control specifications and matches software architectures written in UML.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines to analyse solution and product requirements and operational concepts, and help shape the solution-level architecture.
  • Help build software architectures that account for system constraints, write clear and concise design definitions, and record design decisions and their reasoning.
  • Take part in testing suited to the products.
  • Join an Agile team and take part in its ceremonies.
  • Review colleagues' work and help prepare material for major gate reviews.
  • Coach and support junior engineers technically.

Requirements

  • You are a self-motivated software professional with 10+ years of experience.
  • Strong C++ skills are essential, along with experience of RTOS or OS work in real-time embedded environments.
  • Experience with test frameworks such as GoogleTest and GoogleMock.
  • Experience with static analysis tools such as Klocwork or Coverity, and test coverage tools such as Bullseye.
  • Some exposure to test automation and continuous build and integration.
  • Exposure to Rhapsody or a similar tool, and to UML, is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS is desirable.
  • Experience building software to international safety standards such as IEC 61508 or DO-178C is desirable.

Conditions

Based in Glasgow, working in a hybrid model.

This role requires Security Clearance (SC). Holding SC already is an advantage, but if you do not, you must obtain and maintain SC before you start.

You will generally need to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years. In some cases, 3 years of UK residence over the last 5 may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.

Further guidance on clearance levels is available from the UK Security Vetting service.

Equal opportunity applies to pay and working conditions for everyone.
