You would join a mixed team building software for Land, Sea and Air products, covering the full development lifecycle. The work involves image processing, AI and data analytics on SoCs, microcontrollers, single board computers and HCI consoles.

You would also work with software leadership on improving development processes across the company.

The role sits in the Optronics & Missile Electronics (OME) area, which has supplied optronics for military, scientific and commercial use for more than 130 years, across Air, Land and Sea.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical side of a software design, taking ownership of it.
  • Write mainly in C++, following software design and interface control descriptions or specifications and the software architectures documented in UML.
  • Help shape software architectures within system constraints, write clear and concise design definitions, and record design decisions and their rationale.
  • Work with other engineering functions to analyse solution and product requirements and operational concepts, run trade studies and help define the solution-level architecture.
  • Take part in testing suited to the products.
  • Join an Agile team and contribute to its ceremonies.
  • Review colleagues' work through peer reviews and help prepare material for major gate reviews.
  • Coach and support junior engineers technically.

Requirements

  • Essential: strong C++ skills and experience with bare metal or RTOS/OS in a real-time embedded environment.
  • Experience with test frameworks such as GoogleTest and GoogleMock.
  • Experience with static analysis tools such as Klocwork or Coverity, and test coverage tools such as Bullseye.
  • Some exposure to test automation and continuous build and integration.
  • Desirable: some understanding of common UML artefacts.
  • Desirable: experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS.
  • Desirable: experience building software to international safety standards such as IEC 61508 or DO-178C.
