Description

The company was founded in Switzerland in 1968, is owned by its partners and has offices across Europe and Asia.

It is a global transformation partner with engineering and innovation at its core, helping clients plan for the future while running well today.

Teams cover tech strategy and business innovation, digital solutions and applications, and device and systems engineering, often in regulated sectors such as health and finance.

You will join a cross-functional engineering squad alongside product, design and delivery colleagues. The role stays largely hands-on, with room to shape technical direction and grow other engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Join a high-performing engineering squad and build and run business-critical digital services by hand.
  • Work mainly on the backend while covering the full stack. Write services and APIs in Kotlin or modern Java, preferably Java 17 or later, using the wider JVM ecosystem. Help build web interfaces with React and TypeScript.
  • Turn product requirements into well-structured, maintainable, production-ready solutions with product managers, designers, engineers and architects.
  • Take part across the delivery lifecycle, from technical discovery and build through deployment, production support and ongoing improvement.
  • Own significant features and services, shape technical decisions, support other engineers and keep quality high.
  • Experiment with AI-augmented engineering. You are not expected to use AI tools every day, but should try them where they clearly help and check their outputs for correctness, security and maintainability.
  • Build and maintain reliable JVM services in Kotlin or modern Java.
  • Design and develop APIs and integrations to industry standards, and contribute to API design standards and documentation.
  • Deliver end-to-end features by connecting backend services and data to responsive web interfaces.
  • Write effective automated tests using test-first or test-informed practice.
  • Use AI tools to explore solutions, improve tests, document systems or investigate issues, validating results before relying on them.
  • Build event-driven and asynchronous processing.
  • Join technical discovery, spikes, architecture discussions and peer code reviews.
  • Improve build, test and deployment pipelines so releases are safe and efficient.
  • Add structured logging, metrics and distributed tracing so services are easier to run and debug.
  • Weigh the operational, security and governance effects of decisions, especially in complex or regulated settings.
  • Find and fix technical debt, performance problems and reliability risks.
  • Share knowledge, support collective code ownership and help keep the team collaborative and low-ego.
  • Success looks like delivering production-ready features with the squad, building reliable and reusable services and APIs that are easy to consume, improving the reliability, performance and operability of your services, using new engineering tools thoughtfully, contributing to technical decisions, API standards and reviews, helping the team release safely, and supporting learning, collaboration and shared responsibility.

Requirements

  • Strong commercial experience building server-side applications in Kotlin or modern Java, preferably Java 17 or later.
  • Good knowledge of the JVM ecosystem and common backend practices.
  • Experience designing, building and running APIs.
  • Understanding of service reliability, maintainability, performance and security.
  • Proven experience writing effective automated tests.
  • Practical experience with relational databases.
  • Experience with modern frontend development, ideally React and TypeScript.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and supporting software in production.
  • Experience working collaboratively in an agile, product-focused engineering team.
  • Curiosity about AI-augmented engineering and willingness to develop new ways of working.
  • A thoughtful approach to code quality, technical trade-offs and continuous improvement.
  • Desirable: practical experience using AI-assisted development or productivity tools in a software engineering context.
  • Desirable: familiarity with asynchronous and event-driven architecture.
  • Desirable: experience with frameworks such as Spring Boot, Quarkus, Micronaut or Ktor.
  • Desirable: experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Desirable: experience developing with containers.
  • Desirable: understanding of the difference between relational, NoSQL and other persistence technologies.
  • Desirable: experience building shared platforms, common services or greenfield technical foundations.
  • Desirable: experience building APIs that follow design principles such as RESTful design.
  • Desirable: experience building observable systems.
  • Desirable: experience in regulated or financial-services environments.
  • Desirable: exposure to payments, transaction processing or other business domains.
  • Desirable: equivalent experience with comparable technologies will be considered.
