Senior Software Engineer - Data Engineering

The company designs and builds rockets, spacecraft and key subsystems, with the aim of extending human reach to the Moon, Mars and further.

The Data Engineering team builds the core infrastructure, platforms and tools that store, manage, catalogue and provide access to operational data from every vertical.

The platforms handle large-scale data processing and automation, while the applications and services offer the visualization and reporting engineers use throughout the product lifecycle.

The company is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build and grow the data infrastructure behind its operations.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and ship tools and services that give teams across the company access to operational data.
• Work with engineers in several verticals and time zones to pin down data needs and deliver infrastructure that scales.
• Develop and maintain applications, services and platforms that grow alongside the business.
• Create automation and tooling so engineers can find, reach and use operational data efficiently.
• Own services from architecture and coding through deployment and production support.
• Partner with development, testing, production and mission operations teams on pipelines, storage systems, APIs and processing platforms, and see your work affect hardware validation, mission execution and performance across every vertical.

Requirements

• Qualified to degree or diploma level in software engineering, computer science or electrical engineering, or have equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in software engineering or a related field.
• Strong Python skills and deep knowledge of backend architecture.
• A track record of deploying services at scale, with working knowledge of CI/CD and containerization.
• Solid Git skills for version control and teamwork.
• Experience with Kubernetes or comparable orchestration tools for managing containerized applications.
• Hands-on experience designing and building REST APIs.
• Familiarity with issue trackers such as Jira or Redmine.
• A solid understanding of data pipelines.
• Nice to have: working knowledge of common data analysis libraries such as Pandas and NumPy, and experience building ETL pipelines.
• Nice to have: experience with data visualization, data science and numerical analysis methods.
• Nice to have: familiarity with agile development practices.
• Nice to have: SQL database knowledge.
• Nice to have: experience with web and user interface development.

Conditions

Based onsite at the company's Production Complex in Auckland, New Zealand.

Domestic and international travel may be required.

For US office roles: you must be a US citizen, a lawful permanent resident (green card holder), lawfully admitted to the US as a refugee or granted asylum, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the US Department of State and/or Department of Commerce, as applicable, to comply with US space technology export rules including ITAR.

For New Zealand office roles: background checks, including nationality checks, are carried out before any offer is made, and you must be eligible to access equipment and data regulated by ITAR.
