Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Description

The company builds the systems behind a global logistics marketplace that connects shippers and carriers, spanning the carrier experience, shipper enterprise portals, internal operations tools, and core pricing, matching, and forecasting engines.

This is a senior backend role with a full-time schedule in a hybrid work setup. You will shape the architecture and standards for the backend, and help raise the engineering bar by mentoring others.

You will work across product, operations, and other engineering teams to build reliable, high-performance services that handle complex business logic.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain high-throughput, low-latency microservices and distributed systems in Go, Java, Python, or C++.
• Make architecture decisions, and define data models and API contracts for resilient, fault-tolerant backend infrastructure.
• Set standards for backend testing, security, maintainable code, and deployment pipelines.
• Work with Product, Operations, and other engineering teams to scope technical work, weigh trade-offs, and ship complex logistics features.
• Find technical debt, bottlenecks, and architectural limits early, and plan the work that keeps the platform scalable over time.
• Guide engineers at all levels, lead thorough code and system design reviews, and encourage ownership of production systems.
• Investigate failures in distributed systems running in production, watch service health, and lead blameless post-mortems to improve availability.

Requirements

• A BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong coding skills in at least one backend language: Go, Java, Python, or C++.
• Experience building and scaling microservices and distributed systems that integrate with APIs.
• Deep understanding of system performance, API design, and data modeling.
• Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end backend testing.
• Nice to have: knowledge of data structures and algorithms, and the ability to apply them in practical implementations.
• Nice to have: experience with MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
• Nice to have: a proven record of leading technical projects and mentoring engineers.
• Nice to have: knowledge of the logistics and transportation industry.
