Description

The role is Senior Full Stack Engineer with a front-end lean, on the CNN Engagement Web team.

The team works closely together, values shared learning and varied perspectives, and keeps growing. The work improves the company's products, culture, and how well it reaches audiences worldwide.

As a Senior Software Engineer you will lead technical work where news publishing workflows, A/B experiments, and data-driven product choices meet. You will help shape architecture and implementation and work closely with engineers, product managers, and designers across several teams.

You will handle a feature from planning and design through development, code review, and release, and you will push the team toward higher engineering standards. The focus is building scalable, high-quality features and solid system integrations for high-traffic experiences in a quick-moving news setting.

The company is a next-generation global media and entertainment business with three segments: Studios, Direct-to-Consumer, and TV Media. Its brands include CNN, Paramount, Warner Bros., HBO, HBO Max, Paramount+, Pluto TV, CBS, CBS Sports, TNT Sports, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, MTV, Food Network, BET, HGTV, and Comedy Central.

Responsibilities

  • Coach junior engineers through direct guidance, code reviews, and training.
  • Design and build infrastructure and validation for data models used in simulation platforms and wider applications.
  • Build and scale applications and infrastructure for CNN use cases and changing product needs.
  • Share progress, risks, and blockers early so stakeholders stay aligned.
  • Take an active part in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and offer technical leadership in them.
  • Work in Agile teams using JIRA, GitHub, and Confluence.

Requirements

  • A BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 6+ years of modern JavaScript (ES6+) experience.
  • 4+ years of full-stack development with Node.js and client-server applications.
  • A solid grasp of software engineering basics, including data structures and algorithms.
  • Hands-on system design and architecture work, including scalable end-to-end solutions across frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and distributed systems.
  • A track record of technical leadership, including making decisions and mentoring engineers.
  • Python, Go, or Rust experience is a plus.
  • Hands-on work with AWS services such as IAM, VPC, EC2, S3, EKS, Lambda, and Route53.
  • Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL data storage.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and infrastructure tools such as Git, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and CloudFormation.
  • Experience using AI tools to improve development, code review, and engineering workflows, balancing speed, quality, and bottlenecks.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with A/B testing, analytics, or experimentation tools.
  • Knowledge of site performance best practices, with 3+ years of hands-on experience applying them in production.
  • You value strengthening CNN's culture through collaboration, professionalism, and a focus on engineering quality.
  • Clear communication: you explain technical ideas and tradeoffs, write technical docs, and present with confidence.
  • Ownership: you lead complex work from planning through delivery and follow-through.
  • Organization: you manage several priorities, deliverables, and timelines well.
  • Accountability: you deliver careful, quality work and follow through.
  • You work well with cross-functional partners.
  • You look for smarter, more efficient ways to solve problems and improve how software is built.
  • You keep learning and stay current with tools, patterns, and industry changes.
  • You give thoughtful feedback and support that help the team grow.
