Description

The company is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering business. It is bringing to market a fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) designed to be safe, affordable and able to run flexibly alongside growing amounts of variable renewable power.

The Senior Quality Engineer leads independent QA reviews of hardware work, from design and testing through component manufacturing, construction and operation, measuring each against safety and delivery commitments. The results drive improvements to the company's quality management system, developed together with design, testing, manufacturing, construction and operations staff.

Responsibilities

  • Work with design, testing, manufacturing, construction and operations colleagues to write quality plans, processes and procedures that support hardware development and delivery.
  • Lead independent quality assessments of hardware design, testing, component manufacturing, construction and operations, working with cross-functional teams to confirm compliance, judge how well the work performs and push for ongoing improvement.
  • Turn gaps in unmet commitments into clear, actionable corrective and preventive actions backed by causal analysis.
  • Report assessment outcomes and the review of process compliance and hardware effectiveness to technical staff, stakeholders, relevant leaders and senior leadership.
  • Coach other Quality Engineers on applying QA methods and analyses across the technology development lifecycle.
  • Refine the company's quality management system, QA processes and guidance using project needs, lessons learned, assessment results, nonconformances and operating experience.
  • Work across the company's sites, travelling as project activity requires.
  • Take on other assigned duties, which may include hands-on fabrication, assembly, testing, commissioning and operation of hardware.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or another technical discipline.
  • At least 8 years of QA experience in engineering, in industries with strict safety and reliability demands such as aerospace, automotive, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, commercial rail and shipping, petrochemicals or large infrastructure construction.
  • At least 8 years working to ISO-based management standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, AS9100, IATF (ISO/TS) 16949, ISO 17025, ISO 13485, ISO/TS 22163, ISO 29001 and API Q1/Q2.
  • Experience setting up and running a quality management system, including writing procedures and guidance, delivering training and leading improvement programs that revise existing elements.
  • Ability to apply regulations, codes, standards, specifications and other requirements in assessments, to decide whether activities comply and whether outputs are effective.
  • Ability to apply QA methods across the product lifecycle, covering design control, configuration management, inspection and test, records management, and supplier oversight and verification.
  • Proven record of planning, carrying out, documenting and reporting QA assessments or audits of engineering processes or projects, working independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Works well in a highly collaborative team.
  • Solves problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Puts personal safety and the safety of others first.
  • Collects, manages and passes on knowledge proactively.
  • Looks for new, different ways to create efficiencies when tackling problems, challenges and issues.
