Senior QA Automation Engineer

As a senior QA engineer, you will lead on quality strategy in your team and help raise testing practices across the engineering organization. You act as a go-to quality partner for developers, product stakeholders and other engineers, supporting sound decisions on quality, risk and release readiness.

Your role goes beyond writing tests. You help shape how quality is handled at every stage of the software lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through to Continuous Delivery. You build scalable automation, question existing approaches when they fall short, coach others on testing, and help build a culture where everyone owns quality.

Responsibilities

• Own and keep improving the team's quality and testing strategy so it matches product risks, architecture and delivery goals.
• Serve as the team's main expert on quality engineering, advising on test approaches, testability, automation and technical quality decisions.
• Design and grow scalable test automation across component, integration, contract, API and end-to-end levels, with a heavy emphasis on backend systems and APIs.
• Make sure testing is ready across environments, infrastructure, test data, mocking, service virtualization and system dependencies.
• Work with developers and product stakeholders across the lifecycle to spot risks, clarify requirements, improve testability and catch defects early.
• Investigate complex test failures and production defects, lead root-cause analysis, and use quality metrics and test insights to find systemic problems and inform release decisions.
• Advance Continuous Testing and quality engineering within CI/CD, and mentor engineers while sharing effective testing patterns across teams.

Requirements

• Solid grasp of testing principles, test design techniques, risk-based testing and modern quality engineering practices.
• Proven record building and maintaining automation for backend systems and APIs, including component, integration, contract, API and end-to-end testing.
• Solid programming skills in Java, Kotlin or a comparable language, applying good software engineering practices to keep test automation maintainable.
• Experience testing distributed or service-based systems, including dependencies, asynchronous flows, failure scenarios and root-cause analysis.
• Good working knowledge of SQL, database validation, test environments, test data management, mocking and service virtualization.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD and Continuous Testing, using quality metrics, observability and risk to support technical and release decisions.
• A collaborative, pragmatic style, with experience mentoring engineers, shaping technical decisions and driving improvements across teams. Openness to building skills in areas such as mobile QA is a plus.
• Fluent English.
• Familiarity with some of our testing tools is a nice to have, not required: XCUITest, Espresso, Serenity, Playwright.
