Description

Clear goals. Strong teams. Real results. As a Senior Manager, Software Engineering, you'll lead the domain that decides what millions of customers see across Delivery Hero brands every day, from vendor and product swimlanes to ranking, personalisation and ML serving. You'll lead through a team of engineering managers, set an 18-month direction with your product counterpart, and build a delivery system that runs without you on the critical path.

The Global Recommendations and Ranking domain builds and runs the services that serve, rank and orchestrate recommendations for many Delivery Hero brands. We work closely with data science, ML engineering, product and platform teams.

At Delivery Hero, you'll shape the global consumer experience for millions of users. Your work will have a direct impact on how we attract and retain customers, creating data-driven, personalized interactions that keep them coming back. As part of our Consumer Team, you'll enhance customer satisfaction and drive global growth and profitability through innovative projects.

Lead the domain's engineering squads through the managers who report to you, with a delegation framework of clear priorities and shared success measures

Set direction with your product counterpart: co-own the domain vision and mission, and turn tribe goals into domain goals with an 18-month horizon

Grow and coach your engineering managers, hire strong new ones where needed, and prepare the domain for performance reviews together with your people partner

Sponsor the migration from legacy recommendation services to a unified global platform, holding the line on shared components, model reuse and technical KPIs

Keep cross-squad delivery on track: detect blockers and dependencies early, escalate outside the domain when needed, and use delivery metrics to find and fix inefficiencies

Run the domain with discipline: documented and reviewed engineering practices, reliability and incident learning, the domain budget (together with your Director), and security vulnerabilities resolved within SLA

Requirements

  • Several years of engineering leadership, including managing managers or leading three or more squads, with a track record of scaling impact through others
  • Hands-on experience shipping and running recommendation, ranking, search or personalisation systems in production, with enough depth to challenge design decisions on real-time inference, model serving, feature pipelines and experimentation, in a stack like ours (Go, Python, Kubernetes, AWS and GCP, event streaming)
  • Strategy and goal setting: you turn a fuzzy business problem and a tribe goal into a realistic multi-quarter roadmap and keep many stakeholders aligned to it
  • People leadership: you have grown engineers into managers, attracted top talent, and handled performance management at domain scale
  • Delivery and operational excellence: you measure a domain with standard delivery and technical KPIs, improve them without micromanaging, and have tracked a budget alongside a senior leader and defined a security approach for production services
  • Partnership as an equal with Product, Data Science, Platform and Operations, and clear communication in written and spoken English
  • Experience migrating legacy services to a shared platform across multiple brands or markets
  • Experience with feature stores, vector databases or large-scale A/B experimentation platforms
  • Background in search, ranking, personalisation or relevance engineering in food delivery, e-commerce or marketplaces
  • Experience applying LLMs and agentic tooling to engineering workflows and customer-facing products
