Staff Software Engineer (f/m/d) Virtual Network Functions

Description

The IONOS Cloud VNF Development team designs, builds and maintains the Virtual Network Functions behind the company's cloud network products, which serve external customers and other internal teams.

The team writes its VNFs in Golang and runs them on Kubernetes, covering architecture, implementation, deployment and daily operations.

The company is Europe's leading hosting provider and a pioneer in independent cloud solutions, serving more than 6.2 million customers worldwide, and is building sovereign cloud architectures, high-performance GPU clusters and integrated AI automation tools.

The team works in agile groups with transparent structures and is looking for an experienced software engineer to help shape and run these products.

Responsibilities

• Build and support several modern, scalable, high-performance VNF offerings using a varied set of technologies.
• Design new features and evaluate new hardware and software-defined technologies for the components of the VNF infrastructure.
• Write, test and review Golang services for the VNFs, using AI-assisted tools in your everyday development work.
• Deploy, run and troubleshoot VNF workloads on Kubernetes, including cluster upgrades, monitoring, and debugging network problems in production.
• Work with other teams so that new VNFs integrate smoothly with other IONOS products.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Golang and/or C/C++, including AI-assisted development.
• Hands-on Kubernetes architecture and operations experience, with knowledge in line with CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) principles.
• Understanding of the TCP/IP protocol family and networking technologies such as Open vSwitch, OpenFlow, VXLAN, VRF and eBPF.
• Experience with cloud environments and virtualization technologies such as QEMU/KVM.
• Experience with the GNU toolchain (gcc, gdb, make, etc.), git and the Linux CLI.
• Experience with Linux system administration and automation.
• Nice to have: knowledge of Linux kernel networking internals, VPP and DPDK.
