The IONOS Cloud SDN Development team builds and maintains the Software-Defined Networking stack behind IONOS Cloud, which connects customers' virtual machines and cloud services. The team works on the Linux kernel networking layer, virtual switching and the control plane, using C/C++ and Golang for performance-critical parts and Python for tooling and automation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support the scalable, high-performance SDN stack of IONOS Cloud across a varied set of technologies.
  • Design new features and bring in new technologies, both hardware and software-defined, across the SDN infrastructure.
  • Write and debug C/C++ and Golang/Python code for the SDN data plane and control plane, covering Linux kernel networking, eBPF and Open vSwitch/OpenFlow pipelines.
  • Build Python tooling and automation to test, deploy and operate the SDN stack.
  • Troubleshoot network issues in virtualized environments such as QEMU/KVM and VirtIO.
  • Work with other teams so new SDN features integrate smoothly with different IONOS products.

Requirements

  • Strong skills in C/C++ and/or Golang, plus Python, including AI-assisted development.
  • Experience with Linux kernel networking internals.
  • Knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol family and routing protocols such as BGP, plus networking technologies including Open vSwitch, OpenFlow, VXLAN, VRF and eBPF.
  • Experience with cloud environments, Kubernetes and virtualization technologies such as QEMU/KVM and VirtIO.
  • Experience with the GNU toolchain (gcc, gdb, make and similar), git and the Linux command line.
  • Experience with Linux system administration and automation.
  • Optional: experience with VPP and DPDK.
