Description

The company's staff often ask who they are working for, a question that drives collaboration, ownership and a sense of urgency. The company develops new medicines for serious diseases and offers interesting work, room to grow, inclusion, wellbeing and flexibility, plus broad benefits.

This senior manager role supports the wider Data Engineering community in building cutting-edge data and analytics platforms for the Global Drug Development Patient and Site Engagement and Feasibility and Forecasting area.

The role covers the full data product lifecycle: ingesting, storing, processing, governing and using data. You will work with BI&T partners, business analysts, data engineers, clinical operations specialists, trial managers and other domain experts to support data initiatives and improve the company's data ecosystem. You will also apply Generative AI, Databricks and semantic technologies to improve the platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Support cross-functional teams on AI and data work across clinical trial operations product lines, moving critical programs forward in a lean, high-impact setting.
  • Build and improve data solutions that speed up clinical R&D data use, with strong reliability, interoperability with consumer applications and scalability.
  • Work with BI&T partners, clinical study teams, trial analysts, trial managers, clinical operations leads, domain experts and data engineering, product and operations leaders to drive adoption of the Data Platform.
  • Work with business and data product owners on product development, standardization, testing, lineage, latency targets and access governance for clinical trial data.
  • Tune the data platform for performance, scale, interoperability, availability and cost using cloud-native parallel processing, Delta Lake, caching and partitioning.
  • Use Unity Catalog to enforce governance, manage metadata and keep end-to-end lineage for clinical trial data products.
  • Help build self-service data discovery tools that make clinical trial operational data easier to find, access and reuse.
  • Document processes and structures, share knowledge, and give clear technical recommendations that you can carry out across the enterprise.
  • Build and deploy GenAI and NLP applications that produce measurable results in clinical trial operations, such as efficiency, faster timelines, lower risk and automated compliance.
  • Work with data product owners, engineers and data scientists to build and run cloud-based GenAI and LLM applications using RAG, fine-tuning and vector embeddings for data discovery and use in clinical operations.
  • Track trends in GenAI, RAG, semantic search, Databricks, cloud orchestration and containerization, and apply good practices that improve platform performance, scale and cost.
  • Guide and mentor junior analysts, interns and vendor staff on Databricks, technical practice and business alignment, supporting ongoing learning.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years across data engineering, analytics and AI/ML, including hands-on work building and running data solutions in the cloud.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to win support and drive adoption across functional teams.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial delivery, including feasibility, site selection, forecasting and trial execution, is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on skill with Databricks, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks Workflows, Mosaic AI and MLflow. A Databricks certification, such as Certified Data Engineer Associate or Professional, is a strong plus.
  • Proven ability with cloud-native data platforms, ETL and ELT pipeline design, data modeling and semantic analytics on large, complex datasets, plus hands-on DevOps experience.
  • Strong Python, SQL and Spark skills, including PySpark on Databricks, and experience with GenAI frameworks. Hands-on work with LLM architectures, RAG, prompt engineering and agentic frameworks is required.
  • Experience designing and maintaining data pipeline architecture for large, complex datasets, including semantic modeling within a domain. Life sciences or clinical trial operations experience is preferred.
  • Track record of delivering production-grade GenAI applications, predictive models and self-service analytics that support critical clinical business functions.
  • Working knowledge of LLM and GenAI methods, including RAG, Chain-of-Thought, fine-tuning, vectorization, agentic frameworks and prompt engineering for more accurate LLM responses.
  • Commitment to engineering quality, documentation and process improvement. Functional knowledge of life sciences R&D and clinical trial operations is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with clinical trial management systems such as Veeva Vault, Medidata Rave and IRT, and their underlying data structures.
  • The company hires for skills and capabilities, not only credentials. If the role interests you but your resume does not match perfectly, you are encouraged to apply.
