Description

The company is an IT and management consulting firm in the Washington, DC area, founded in 1996. It delivers full-cycle IT and management support to private and public sector clients.

The agency's contract writing system runs on Appian in the Impact Level 5 Appian Government Cloud. Its current production version connects to an Oracle database. The next generation version is being built in separate Appian Government Cloud environments to modernize the agency's telecommunications contracting.

This Database Administrator role supports both versions. For the current production version, you own Oracle administration, security, and outage response. For the next generation version, you support data design and the move of legacy contract data into the new system, working with the Appian data layer, which may include Appian Cloud's native MariaDB data source.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and tune the Oracle database instances for the production system, working with the hosting provider and the agency's database administrators.
  • Write and keep current the database security standards, and control who can access the database.
  • Lead the response to database-related outages, and watch and manage disaster recovery services.
  • Review the worst-performing database processes, structures, and configurations, and recommend concrete fixes, starting with the simplest.
  • Test Oracle security patches and version upgrades, and make required configuration changes with the ISSO.
  • Build and release database scripts for each production release, and maintain refresh schedules that account for dependencies between agency systems.
  • Check database security posture against ACAS and HBSS results, complete Oracle Database STIG checklist reviews, and apply IAVA patches.
  • Submit Enterprise Change Requests for database components controlled by the agency or the hosting provider.
  • Support data design for the next generation system with the Appian development team, including database schemas delivered each sprint and the data models behind Appian record types.
  • Analyze, map, script, and validate the migration of legacy contract data from the production system to the next generation system, including support for the government's legacy contract migration strategy and migration utility.
  • Support data integration between the system and connected systems, including the Data Integration layer that stores its schemas in the system database.
  • Perform routine project tasks on specialized information assurance problems.
  • Resolve system-wide and technology problems that affect IA requirements by integrating electronic processes or methods.
  • Analyze information security requirements.
  • Use analytical, systematic approaches to solve workflow, organization, and planning problems.
  • Provide security engineering support for planning, design, development, testing, demonstration, and integration of information systems.

Requirements

  • Have 5+ years as a production Oracle Database Administrator on a currently supported Oracle release.
  • Be advanced in SQL and PL/SQL, with working knowledge of MySQL or MariaDB SQL.
  • Be able to perform Oracle backup and recovery with RMAN, and tune performance using AWR and ASH.
  • Have hands-on data migration experience, including source-to-target mapping, transformation scripting, and reconciliation of migrated records.
  • Have implemented the Oracle Database STIG in a DoD Risk Management Framework environment.
  • Have worked on at least two projects in a large organization that administered, operated, maintained, and secured a large-scale database.
  • Preferred: Have Oracle high availability experience, including RAC and/or Data Guard.
  • Preferred: Have worked with Appian data stores, Appian record types and data sync, or connected external databases to Appian Cloud.
  • Preferred: Have worked with databases in managed cloud environments such as Appian Cloud, AWS GovCloud, or Amazon RDS.
  • Preferred: Have prior DISA or agency system experience.
  • Preferred: Hold Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification.
  • Preferred: Have experience with Splunk or a comparable log analysis tool.
