Senior/Lead DevOps Engineer

Description

The company runs a large modernization program for secure, enterprise-grade government platforms.

The team designs, automates, and operates Kubernetes-based environments for the public sector, with a focus on cloud infrastructure, platform hardening, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD.

Some of the work involves air-gapped deployments.

The role covers technical discovery, architecture, implementation planning, and stakeholder communication, and is open at senior or lead level.

Responsibilities

• Build, run, and maintain enterprise Kubernetes platforms and cloud infrastructure.
• Lead infrastructure delivery from early discovery through to production rollout.
• Set architecture and platform technical direction so it matches customer needs.
• Script infrastructure provisioning and configuration with Infrastructure as Code.
• Build and keep up CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows.
• Run clusters securely, manage secrets, and harden the platform.
• Work with customers, vendors, and external parties in technical workshops and solution discussions.
• Review existing infrastructure and find areas to optimize.
• Write technical proposals, implementation plans, estimates, and delivery roadmaps.
• Diagnose production issues and carry out root cause analysis.
• Support compliance, security, and operational readiness for government environments.
• Coach engineers and help lead technical work across the team.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of paid DevOps work in enterprise environments.
• Deep Kubernetes skills in administration, networking, and security.
• Working experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or both.
• Experience applying GitOps with ArgoCD or a comparable tool.
• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with CI/CD automation and software delivery pipelines.
• Experience with secrets management tools such as OpenBAO or HashiCorp Vault.
• Experience with identity and access management tools such as Keycloak.
• Knowledge of infrastructure security, CIS benchmarks, and platform hardening.
• Experience running production enterprise infrastructure.
• Able to work independently and make technical decisions.
• Experience communicating directly with customers and stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• English at Upper-Intermediate level or higher.
• Takes ownership of technical initiatives and leads them forward.
• Comfortable with ambiguous and changing conditions.

• Plus: Experience with OKD or OpenShift administration.
• Plus: Experience with Ceph storage solutions.
• Plus: Knowledge of Helm packaging and customization.
• Plus: Experience with air-gapped and restricted environments.
• Plus: Experience with vSphere administration.
• Plus: Experience delivering solutions to external hosting providers.
• Plus: Background in government, eGov, or registry-based systems.
• Plus: Understanding of compliance and operational requirements in public sector environments.
