Description

The company designs, builds and runs the largest fleet of imaging satellites ever put up, and sells the data through a cloud platform to customers in commercial, environmental and humanitarian work. It is both a space company and a data company, and it builds its own hardware, manufacturing, data processing and software.

Customers use the data to build new technologies, grow revenue, support research and tackle large problems.

The team is small and multi-disciplinary. Its members can run a system as well as build one, and they handle difficult conversations as easily as code reviews.

The team sits between teams that build platform capabilities and teams that need them. Its customers are every engineering team at the company, and it wins work by making each team's week easier. Each team that moves onto the platform is infrastructure the company no longer has to duplicate, secure or pay for.

Most work is hands-on engagements with teams that are blocked, mid-migration or joining the platform for the first time. Those teams often bring a proposed fix rather than the underlying problem, and sorting out that gap is where the work starts.

The company has offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and The Netherlands, and staff also work remotely around the world.

This is a full-time remote role based in Germany, the Netherlands or Slovenia. If you live near a company office, you are expected to work from it 3 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engagements from start to finish with engineering teams, working out what is blocking them and resolving complex infrastructure problems.
  • Own each engagement: diagnose the issue, make the hands-on fix, argue for upstream changes, and leave a lasting artifact so the next team does not hit the same problem.
  • Build reference implementations, tooling and guidance to move teams off deprecated systems without disruption.
  • Act as the main technical contact for new teams joining the core infrastructure.
  • Turn scattered solutions into well-supported, standard infrastructure offerings.
  • Design reusable libraries, Terraform modules and Helm charts for patterns that recur across teams.
  • Add instrumentation and attribution tooling that shows infrastructure cost, usage and adoption.
  • Pull engineering feedback and common pain points together to shape the infrastructure roadmap.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of professional experience in platform engineering, DevOps or site reliability engineering, including leading at least one cross-team project or migration.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in technical enablement, developer experience or solutions architecture focused on internal developer productivity.
  • Hands-on experience running and maintaining production infrastructure.
  • Deep knowledge of Kubernetes, including workload optimisation and operations.
  • Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform or another public cloud, including compute, storage, quota and capacity modes.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in software development with Go or Python.
  • Ability to turn vague requirements into structured, actionable engineering tasks.
  • Strong written and spoken communication for technical documentation and work across functions.
  • Nice to have: experience with large-scale block storage (Persistent Disk, Hyperdisk, Ceph, SAN or equivalent) run at fleet scale rather than per service.
  • Nice to have: experience leading large migrations or deprecations that needed buy-in from teams outside your reporting line.
  • Nice to have: experience in a consulting-style engineering role (solutions architecture, professional services or technical account engineering) applied to an internal platform.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with workflow orchestration (such as Temporal), batch and job-execution systems, or large-scale data pipelines.
  • Nice to have: experience defining and measuring platform adoption through developer-productivity instrumentation, NPS or internal market share.

Conditions

Expected starting gross salary for the Netherlands is €75.000 to €93.700 EUR. Placement within the range is based on objective, gender-neutral factors such as skills, qualifications and experience.

The role may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses and/or equity.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and the posting may close early once enough suitable applications arrive. The deadline is 23:45 CET on the date listed.

Benefits

  • Paid time off, including vacation, public holidays and company-wide days off.
  • Employee wellness programme.
  • Home office reimbursement.
  • Monthly phone and internet reimbursement.
  • Tuition reimbursement and access to LinkedIn Learning.
  • Equity.
  • Paid volunteering time off.
  • Benefits depend on employment type and location, under applicable law or company policy.
