You would join the APM UI team as a senior software engineer, improving the interface developers use to understand observability data, including the service map and trace waterfall.
The team is a group of engineers and designers who share expertise, so you would both teach and learn from them.
The company is fully distributed.
Responsibilities
Build intuitive UI components with TypeScript, React and Node.js, and connect them to back-end services for a smooth experience.
Run usability tests and act on user feedback to keep improving the product.
Take complex, loosely defined problems from start to finish: shape the approach, split the work if needed, make the key technical calls and ship.
Lead architecture and system design discussions, weighing trade-offs, backward compatibility, performance and scale.
Set coding standards and make sure the team follows them, build reusable components, add automated testing and deployment, assess new technologies and document best practices.
Review code thoroughly for standards, best practices and security weaknesses, give constructive feedback and help the team resolve review findings.
Work asynchronously across time zones, in the open on GitHub and Slack.
Work closely with designers and product managers, turning mockups into working components, keeping visuals consistent and joining brainstorms for UI ideas.
Requirements
Solid production experience with full-stack JavaScript, ideally TypeScript, with React on the front end and Node.js on the back end.
A record of leading non-trivial projects from start to finish, owning the design with little guidance.
Strong architecture and system design judgment, including in large existing codebases.
Have designed and launched several UI components that clearly increased user engagement.
Experience with AI-assisted development tools to build features faster, fix complex systems and improve existing code.
Excellent written and verbal communication, and enjoyment of async collaboration and sharing knowledge.
Enjoy raising the skill level of the engineers around you.
A generalist mindset with a focus on the people who use your software.
Bonus: some Reactflow experience.
Bonus: experience with the company's stack, OpenTelemetry, observability tooling, or log and data-ingestion pipelines.
Bonus: Go, Kubernetes, or cloud-native application development.
Bonus: building large UIs that handle lots of data, including search, filtering and tables, plus streaming or real-time data.
Bonus: prior open-source or working-in-the-open experience.
Bonus: experience mentoring engineers or leading a small project team.
