Description

The Ad Formats team builds and evolves ad experiences across all platforms and format types, including image, video, carousel, shopping and more. The team defines how each format behaves in placements such as feed, conversation and search, so it works in the right context. It covers media rendering, click behavior, lead gen click variants and the UI details that make promoted content fit in on the site while meeting advertiser goals.

The Ad Formats Foundation group owns the shared infrastructure behind every format. Its work centers on developer efficiency, system reliability and long-term scalability: modernizing core formats infrastructure, standardizing format data, keeping formats consistent across platforms and compliant, and reducing bugs so the formats team can iterate faster.

The company runs a community-based platform with over 100,000 active communities and about 130 million daily active unique visitors. Users post, vote and comment on topics they care about.

The role is a senior frontend position focused on desktop and mobile web ad experiences. You will work with product and design on loosely defined problems and make product and engineering tradeoffs. You will work alongside Ads and Web Platform engineers on complex frontend problems while keeping site performance, accessibility and reliability intact.

Responsibilities

  • Build resilient frontend approaches that reduce ad disruptions, using JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, the DOM and browser networking.
  • Work with Ads and Web Platform teams to fit solutions into shared rendering infrastructure, frontend architecture and build systems.
  • Design controlled experiments and phased rollouts that measure impact without harming performance, accessibility or user experience.
  • Add instrumentation and monitoring to measure mitigation results, catch regressions and inform the next iteration.
  • Implement ad rendering, event collection, click handling and browser extensions across several ad formats.
  • Help improve the reliability, performance and measurement of web advertising more broadly.
  • Raise engineering quality through sound technical design, testing, code review, documentation and mentoring.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building production web applications with JavaScript, TypeScript and/or React.
  • Day-to-day use of agentic coding tools such as Codex, Cursor, Claude or similar.
  • A record of delivering complex frontend projects on your own, from design through launch and iteration.
  • Solid judgment on frontend architecture, state management, component design, testing and API integration.
  • Experience building polished interfaces with strong attention to usability, performance, accessibility and maintainability.
  • Comfort working through ambiguous product and technical problems.
  • Strong communication and collaboration with engineering, product, design and data peers.
  • Experience using instrumentation, experimentation or product metrics to improve user experiences.
  • A habit of improving engineering quality through code reviews, documentation and technical mentorship.
  • Bonus: experience with various ad formats, such as video and display ads.
  • Bonus: familiarity with modern frontend testing, experimentation and observability tools.
  • The team mainly uses JavaScript, TypeScript and React.
