The role is a frontend systems engineering position focused on the frontend foundations of a complex enterprise product that turns industrial process data into business insight. You will work on the React infrastructure, state management, design system, and reusable application patterns that other teams build on to create clear, consistent interfaces for data-heavy workflows.
The company is a remote-only startup founded by serial entrepreneurs with experience in high-growth ventures.
Responsibilities
Lead the ongoing evolution of the frontend system, raising the quality, consistency, and usability of components and the developer experience across the product.
Build systems that make AI-assisted development work well by codifying best practices in a form that AI agents can easily follow. Experience here is welcome, and so is a strong interest in it.
Use open-source tools such as Zustand, TanStack Query, and StyleX where they fit, and extend or adapt them with good judgment to suit the product, standards, and workflows.
Make sure refactors that introduce new patterns or libraries meet a very high bar for quality and completeness, since they affect every team that depends on them.
Work closely with the teams that rely on this infrastructure to roll out changes smoothly.
Requirements
Bring strong product sense, visual taste, and systems thinking, along with real experience creating, evolving, and shipping design systems or component libraries in production.
Work effectively in React and TypeScript, with exposure to libraries such as Zustand, StyleX, or TanStack Query.
Build frontend systems that are composable, accessible, robust, and easy for other engineers to use. Design component APIs, styling architecture, responsiveness, and usability with long-term maintainability in mind.
Find and fix the root causes of defects rather than patching symptoms.
Collaborate well through code review, pairing, and clear communication, and understand customer and team pain points well enough to explain the reasoning behind features to other engineers.
Write clearly and speak clearly, and care about documentation and conventions as much as the code itself. Help others understand design decisions and create systems teams can adopt easily.
Show strong ownership. Spot gaps without being told, decide where to focus, and see improvements through to completion.
Have at least 5 years of professional software development experience, including a solid record of designing, building, and evolving complex systems over several years.
Have expert knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and HTML primitives.
Have designed, built, or significantly evolved shared frontend systems such as design systems, component libraries, state management architecture, styling systems, or reusable application frameworks.
Understand modern frontend architecture well, including state management, server and client data flow, component composition, rendering behavior, and performance.
Have built reusable components and patterns with careful attention to API design, accessibility, responsiveness, styling, usability, and maintainability.
Have led or significantly contributed to large frontend refactors, migrations, or adoption of new architectural patterns in a production application.
Evaluate and adopt open-source frontend technology well, preferring to extend existing tools over building custom replacements.
Diagnose root causes of complex frontend defects and performance problems.
Write clear technical documentation, conventions, and examples that help engineers adopt shared systems.
Influence technical direction beyond your own area through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, mentoring, and cross-team work.
Partner with designers and product teams to create clear, consistent experiences across complex workflows.
Build responsive, scalable web experiences across devices, and work with designers to keep visuals consistent.
Solve problems well, analyze carefully, and pay close attention to detail.
Communicate well in writing and in person, and work effectively in a cross-functional, remote team.
Have familiarity with agile methods and tools such as Scrum or Kanban.
At Staff level, have demonstrated experience setting frontend technical direction or creating shared architectural patterns adopted by multiple engineers or teams.
