Senior Engineering Manager, Containers

Description

The team builds enterprise software that helps organisations handle the operational, security and compliance demands of running cloud-native platforms such as Kubernetes.

The product gives enterprise customers integrated tools to run containerised workloads securely.

Responsibilities

• Set and carry out the long-term technical strategy and roadmap, keeping operations highly available and engineering practices strong.
• Keep improving system resilience, operational metrics and platform performance.
• Build security into every stage of the software development lifecycle, including the secure adoption and governance of AI technologies and agentic workflows.
• Lead security architecture, threat modelling, vulnerability management and secure coding across the platform and customer workloads.
• Recruit, coach and grow the engineering organisation, with clear career paths and an inclusive culture.
• Get engineers to own code quality, platform health and technical innovation.
• Work with Product Management and executive leadership to balance new features against tech debt reduction, stability and security, using operational data and customer needs to make trade-offs.
• Share information with executives, enterprise customers and other teams, and turn customer usage patterns and operational feedback into engineering priorities and platform guardrails.
• Track emerging trends in containers, cloud security standards and related tools, and bring useful methods into the team.

Requirements

• A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science is required; a degree in a related field such as software engineering, computer engineering or information technology may also be suitable.
• At least 7 to 10 years of software engineering experience, including leading or managing engineering teams in commercial software.
• Deep technical knowledge of distributed systems, cloud-native infrastructure, secure SDLC practices and operational metrics in production enterprise environments.
• A track record of hiring and developing strong engineers, setting technical direction, establishing operational standards and delivering complex projects through engineering teams.
• Excellent communication skills, including explaining technical topics clearly and concisely, working with stakeholders and collaborating within a team.
• Preferred: experience coaching, mentoring and managing engineering managers or team leads.
