Description

The role is a senior systems engineering position in a cross-functional group that handles both business and technical needs for customers, aiming for a product that meets user needs. The work covers defining and measuring requirements, developing design options, running trade studies, choosing and implementing designs, and confirming that everything integrates correctly, from concept through production and operation.

The role shapes approaches, projects, programs, and ways of working in its functional area and the business units it affects. It influences the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of your own team and has a strong voice in setting priorities. You have moderate autonomy and make frequent operational judgment calls.

Responsibilities

  • Teach customer training courses on installed I&C equipment, including nuclear instrumentation (SRM, IRM, WRNM, PRNM), at company sites and customer sites.
  • Support the BWR fleet with urgent engineering requests, including testing to identify and resolve problems.
  • Act as the single point of contact for customers, resolving issues quickly by drawing on their expertise, bringing in the right internal people, and guiding the team to a fix.
  • Build deep expertise in your discipline, act as a quality and best-practice reference, know the legacy technical information in your area, help shape strategy and policy, and make sure your area delivers.
  • Know best practices in depth, understand how your area connects to others, and track how competitors differ in the market.
  • Apply technical judgment to moderately complex problems in product and operational settings. Look for ways to improve existing solutions, and back recommendations with evidence and input from other functions.
  • Mentor junior staff as a technical subject matter expert. Lead moderately complex projects with attention to risk and resource use. Communicate complex or sensitive information clearly, build team agreement, and use influence and negotiation to move initiatives forward.

Requirements

  • Hold a current or former Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) license or certification, with 5+ years in an SRO role, technical training, or an equivalent position, plus 5+ years of direct I&C work at a utility or in a military branch (Navy preferred), and 3+ years of hands-on analog I&C experience.
  • Or hold a bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related technical field, with 8+ years in engineering or technical training in I&C or a similar environment, plus 5+ years of direct I&C work at a utility or in a military branch (Navy preferred), and 3+ years of hands-on analog I&C experience.
  • Desired: master's degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Desired: reactor operator or senior reactor operator license.
  • Desired: experience with NUMAC systems.
  • Desired: current or past lead site engineer at a utility for I&C systems engineering.
  • Desired: engineering, operations, or maintenance experience on early-style BWR or PWR plants (BWR 3 or 4).
  • Desired: multi-site BWR I&C experience and knowledge.
  • Desired: naval shipyard experience in engineering nuclear test operations or engineering systems test.
  • Desired: experience with analog-to-digital I&C upgrades.
  • Desired: strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Desired: strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Desired: proven ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Desired: proven ability to lead programs or projects.
  • Desired: ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Desired: established project management skills.
