Senior Engineer (Full-Stack)

The team is building the next generation of the Fusion platform as global market infrastructure in partnership with AWS, on a new platform using the latest technology and architecture.

This is a senior role in a new team, where you will work alongside AWS engineers and learn from them.

Responsibilities

• Drive engineering improvements and explain the reasoning behind your work to team members and the wider organisation.
• Help the team take part in a well-defined software development lifecycle that supports planning, prioritisation and delivery.
• Support estimation discussions by drawing on past experience, questioning requirements and proposing solutions.
• Lead discussions on software systems and wider system architecture with engineers.
• Move systems toward the target architecture through refactoring and by prioritising deliveries.
• Own the design, development, testing and deployment of your assigned work, and mentor junior engineers.
• Work with the Principal Engineer, Architects and Leads to get your work into production.

Requirements

• Professional experience as a Full Stack or Front or Back End engineer using TypeScript.
• Front end: strong HTML5, CSS3 and TypeScript skills, plus React, Redux and React Query.
• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks, mainly React.
• Git for version control and an understanding of cross-browser compatibility.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL and WebSockets, and with CSS pre-processors such as Tailwind.
• Back end: skill in TypeScript and/or another object-oriented language such as C or Java.
• Solid SQL and NoSQL database knowledge.
• Proficiency with REST, GraphQL and WebSocket APIs, and experience with microservices architecture and containerisation.
• Experience using Terraform and automated testing, including unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
• Hands-on AWS experience with Lambda, Fargate, API Gateway and AppSync, plus the AWS ecosystem and CLI or an equivalent.
• Experience building well-tested software for low-latency, event-driven production systems.
• Pub/Sub messaging experience with technologies such as Solace or AMQP.
• Experience delivering reusable services for several agile projects within a technical platform team.
• Experience working in an agile cross-functional delivery team and across the full software development lifecycle.
• Comfort with Linux shell or Windows PowerShell, and with CI/CD in an enterprise setting.
• Familiarity with agile tools such as JIRA and other project management systems.
• Knowledge of software design patterns and source control with Git.
• Open to new ideas, able to create fresh approaches, and keen to find and act on improvements.
• Energetic about setting and reaching new goals.
• Able to work with business analysts and product owners to clarify ambiguity, and to challenge teammates constructively.

Hybrid working.

The Fusion platform team builds, owns and runs its own services through to production. The services are used 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, by several teams.

You may be asked to help with production incidents or to provide support outside normal hours to keep operations stable.
