Description

The company is building a global digital sports platform spanning collectibles, commerce, and betting, with a customer base of over 100 million sports fans and a partner network of about 900 sports properties.

The company is a new business focused on next-generation collectibles, working within the wider Fanatics ecosystem, which engages more than 81 million fans across over 900 sports properties.

You will build Android applications for the company ecosystem and may support one or more products or platforms, working with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering on complex customer and technical problems.

As a senior engineer, you will own large features and technical initiatives from design through production, shape technical solutions, improve the quality and scalability of the Android apps, and guide other engineers. The role suits an engineer with deep Android skill, sound product judgment, and comfort in a fast-moving, collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and maintain high-quality Android apps in Kotlin using current Android practices.
  • Own complex features and technical initiatives from design through launch and ongoing operation.
  • Work with Product and Design to turn customer needs into intuitive, fast mobile experiences.
  • Build apps that are reliable, scalable, accessible, and responsive across many Android devices.
  • Make sound architecture and technical decisions for Android and contribute to wider mobile engineering choices.
  • Spot technical risks and opportunities, and propose solutions that balance release speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Set and promote engineering practices for code quality, testing, observability, and developer productivity.
  • Give technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to engineers, raising the team's execution quality.
  • Improve app performance, stability, security, and reliability through measurement and steady iteration.
  • Diagnose and fix complex production issues across mobile apps and the services behind them.
  • Use monitoring, experiments, and customer feedback to find ways to improve product and technical performance.
  • Reduce technical debt and evolve existing systems alongside near-term product priorities.
  • Work with backend, platform, iOS, web, data, and other engineering teams to deliver a cohesive customer experience.
  • Work with Product, Design, Data, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements and handle technical tradeoffs.
  • Help plan technical work and split complex initiatives into clear, actionable tasks.
  • Explain technical decisions, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience building and releasing Android apps.
  • Deep working knowledge of Kotlin and the modern Android ecosystem.
  • Solid understanding of Android architecture, app lifecycle, concurrency, networking, persistence, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Flow, dependency injection, and automated testing.
  • Track record of designing and delivering complex features with limited oversight.
  • Strong grasp of software architecture, APIs, distributed systems, and how mobile apps interact with backend services.
  • Proven ability to diagnose hard technical problems and see them through to resolution.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working across Product, Design, and Engineering.
  • Experience guiding and mentoring other engineers technically.
  • Preferred qualifications: experience building high-scale consumer mobile products; experience with commerce, marketplaces, livestreaming, social platforms, payments, or other transaction-oriented products; experience with mobile observability, experimentation, analytics, and performance tooling; familiarity with CI/CD and mobile release automation; experience working on a shared mobile platform or in a multi-product engineering environment; passion for sports, collectibles, fandom, or products that bring communities together.

Conditions

This is a senior, hands-on role that also carries project-level technical leadership, and your impact should reach the quality and effectiveness of the wider team and Android environment.

The base salary range is $160,000 - $200,000 USD for New York City; it excludes short-term and long-term incentive pay and may not apply elsewhere. Final base pay depends on location, experience, qualifications, and training.
