Description

The Department of Social Services (DSS) combines the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA works to reduce poverty and income inequality by giving New Yorkers in need access to essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS works to prevent and end homelessness in New York City through a range of new approaches that help families and individuals leave shelter and become self-sufficient as soon as possible.

The Information Technology Services (ITS) unit is the technology arm of DSS. It keeps both agencies running day to day, handles urgent issues, and plans longer-term needs. ITS builds and improves the infrastructure and applications behind both agencies, including eligibility and recertification systems, case management, housing, employment and work engagement services, revenue-generating data matches, claiming systems, and personnel systems.

ITS is hiring one (1) IT Project Specialist to work as a Senior Software System Engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead multidisciplinary project teams, including those supporting DSS case management systems, on a daily basis.

  • Lead improvement efforts using collaborative methods, new methodologies and automation tools, including mobile app development with Android Studio.
  • Track emerging technologies that affect browser-based and mobile applications so they can keep improving and scale. Work with business users and the IT technical team to meet business objectives.
