Description

The company develops advanced defense systems and is at an early stage, so you would have significant ownership and a direct, measurable effect on its direction, whatever your function.

You would write, build, and test the software that flies and simulates the company's flight systems, working across the full stack from applications and operating systems to networking, firmware, and simulation.

You would work closely with software and hardware engineers to build and debug systems so the mission succeeds. The team is hiring engineers at all levels who enjoy solving hard problems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build reliable autonomous software, along with the simulations needed to check its precision and dependability.
  • Own the whole software lifecycle for mission-critical applications: design, prototyping, testing, integration, and deployment.
  • Review test results and investigate problems, including hands-on integration and debugging of hardware and software together.
  • Build testing tools for virtualized hardware, real hardware-in-the-loop, and vehicle-in-the-loop setups.
  • Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams on next-generation hypersonic missile capabilities, including advanced guidance algorithms and seeker image processing.
  • Lead major projects that support the company's objectives, and travel now and then to launch and customer sites for testing and operations.
  • Raise the software team's standards and practices over time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a related STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent hands-on experience from industry work, research, or technical contributions.
  • Systems programming in C++, Python, or Rust, and comfort with Linux development environments.
  • Experience with low-level work such as Linux kernel development, hardware interfaces, or driver development on peripherals like UART, I2C, or similar.
  • Preferred: proven proficiency in C++, Rust, or a similar systems language.
  • Preferred: practical experience with real-time embedded or distributed systems on Linux, including high-quality C++ for processors and microcontrollers such as PowerPC, x86, and ARM.
  • Preferred: strong Linux skills, including Bash scripting, network troubleshooting, performance analysis with tools like strace and ftrace, debugging, optimization, and unit testing.
  • Preferred: solid understanding of computer architecture and networking protocols such as TCP and UDP.
  • Preferred: a first-principles approach to problems, including building prototypes to test key design ideas and measure technical limits.

Conditions

The role may require access to classified information or restricted U.S. Government sites, systems, or information, as decided by the company and/or U.S. Government requirements.

If the role is designated that way, your employment may depend on obtaining and keeping the required U.S. Government security clearance or other authorization, and on meeting any citizenship or other eligibility rules set by law, regulation, executive order, or contract. You will be told if and when these apply.

The role requires access to export-controlled information. Employment, or hiring a contractor, depends on being able to access that information without additional export licensing from the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.

The job description does not list every task, and duties may change at any time, with or without notice.

Benefits

  • The company offers a generous benefits package, with details at the bottom of its Careers page.
