Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Description

The company is building advanced defense systems at an early stage, with a small-company pace and a team that is still forming.

The role is a senior embedded software position covering software for resource-constrained, mission-critical systems, from early design through field testing.

You will work closely with electrical, systems and test teams to bring new hardware up quickly and keep it reliable.

You will have significant ownership and a direct, measurable effect on the company's work and direction, whatever your function.

Responsibilities

• Build embedded applications, device drivers and board support packages in C and Rust.
• Speed up compute-heavy algorithms by parallelizing them with CUDA on embedded GPUs.
• Bring up new boards, covering bootloaders, secure boot chains, peripheral setup and diagnostics.
• Implement and verify cryptographic protection using TPMs.
• Integrate sensors, communication links and high-rate data paths, then profile and tune them for latency and throughput.
• Create automated hardware-in-the-loop tests, and script board flashing, provisioning and regression suites.
• Debug difficult problems with JTAG, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes and trace tools.
• Instrument systems to measure performance and reliability, and send the data to Grafana or Foxglove for analysis.
• Work with cross-functional teams to isolate issues quickly in lab and field settings.
• Write clear documentation of designs, decisions and interfaces for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Strong skill in C and in production Rust, including disciplined unsafe code and ownership semantics.
• Hands-on CUDA development on embedded or edge-class GPUs such as Jetson.
• Experience with ARM-based SoCs, memory-mapped I/O, DMA, interrupts and IPC.
• Proven work on secure boot, cryptography libraries, key management or similar security-critical code.
• Comfortable with Linux internals, cross-compilers, build systems and hardware debugging tools.
• Solid Git and GitHub workflows and familiarity with modern CI/CD.
• Preferred: experience with Zephyr, FreeRTOS or seL4.
• Preferred: knowledge of DSP, real-time networking or RF signal chains.
• Preferred: experience with Azure or other cloud services for telemetry ingestion.
