Sr Cloud Developer

Description

The team is growing its private cloud software and is hiring senior engineers to build it.

You will design, build, and maintain enterprise-grade software that runs on-premises and in the cloud.

You will help scale and improve the platform and its plugins, covering bare metal and virtual compute, networking, workload isolation, and dynamic scheduling.

The work shapes the direction of the company's private cloud products, which are used across global enterprise environments.

This is a software engineering role, not a DevOps, platform, or solutions engineering position.

The company helps customers connect, protect, analyze, and act on their data and applications from edge to cloud.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable, resilient backend systems in Java, Groovy, or other JVM languages, using cloud-native principles.
• Lead the design and build of integrations with server management platforms, including BMC/Redfish, to automate provisioning and lifecycle management.
• Write orchestration services that communicate with compute and networking devices through their REST and CLI interfaces.
• Develop and tune L2/L3 networking code for dynamic configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Set and enforce standards for architecture, code quality, security, and DevOps across the engineering team.
• Coach engineers, review their code, and build a habit of technical excellence and ongoing improvement.
• Work with product, operations, and QA to match technical solutions to business goals.
• Solve complex problems that span server, storage, networking, and cloud.
• Write up architecture decisions, system designs, and operating procedures so the system stays maintainable and knowledge is shared.

Requirements

• Expert-level skill in Java, Groovy, or another JVM language, with substantial backend and cloud development experience.
• Strongly preferred: hands-on experience with BMC/Redfish protocols for server management and automation.
• Preferred: L2/L3 networking programming skills, including Ethernet, VLANs, TCP/IP, routing, and switching.
• A track record of designing cloud services and plugin-based architectures that are extensible and modular.
• Experience with virtualization and containerization on Linux or VMWare platforms.
• Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills for complex distributed systems.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to set technical direction and work across teams.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Conditions

Hybrid role: on average 2 days per week in an HPE office.

Based in the United States.

Engineering job, job level TCP04.

Base salary: USD 148,500 to 281,500 in Colorado, and USD 141,000 to 325,000 in Texas.

Final offers may vary by location, work experience, education or training, and skill level. Variable incentives may also be offered on top of base salary.
