The company develops medical imaging technology, and this role sits in its Molecular Imaging Research and Development team.
You will design, develop, test and support embedded software for motion control and safety-critical subsystems in SPECT molecular imaging cameras.
You will work alongside electrical, mechanical, software and systems engineers to build reliable, high-performance solutions for imaging systems used in patient care.
The role suits an engineer who likes hands-on development and hard technical problems.
Responsibilities
Design, build, implement and maintain embedded software for motion control and safety-related subsystems in SPECT systems.
Own end-to-end embedded software work, from requirements and architecture through design, implementation, testing, integration and ongoing product support.
Write and maintain software requirements, architecture documents, design specifications and technical documentation.
Develop, debug and optimize embedded code in C and C++.
Design and support low-level hardware/software interfaces, device drivers and communication protocols.
Build motion control features, tune motors, and implement safety mechanisms and fail-safe error handling.
Make sure software designs and code meet applicable safety requirements, development processes and engineering standards.
Run unit tests, debugging and verification to confirm software function, reliability and quality.
Support system-level integration, troubleshooting and validation of embedded software in complex electromechanical systems.
Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, CAN analyzers and other specialized instruments for hardware debugging and diagnostics.
Find and fix software and hardware integration issues found during development, lab testing, manufacturing or field operation.
Work with electrical, mechanical, systems and software teams to assess system interactions, technical risks and product performance.
Take part in Agile work, including sprint planning, estimation, technical discussions and delivering assigned work.
Help drive continuous improvement in software quality, development efficiency and product reliability.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, software engineering or a related technical field.
At least 3 years of professional experience in embedded software or a closely related engineering field.
Experience writing software in C, C++ or C.
Experience with embedded systems, hardware/software integration and hands-on debugging.
Familiarity with low-level hardware interfaces, device drivers or communication protocols.
Experience with software testing, troubleshooting and defect resolution.
Ability to read technical requirements and turn them into reliable designs and code.
A solid grasp of software quality, engineering processes and technical documentation.
A proven ability to work well with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Comfort working in a lab with hardware prototypes, test equipment and electromechanical systems.
Preferred: experience developing embedded software for motion control systems, motor controllers or complex electromechanical equipment.
Preferred: familiarity with safety-critical firmware, fault detection, fail-safe mechanisms and error-handling strategies.
Preferred: experience with CAN, UART, I2C or ADC-based hardware interfaces.
Preferred: hands-on use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, CAN sniffers or similar debugging equipment.
Preferred: experience with motor tuning, motion control algorithms or real-time control systems.
Preferred: familiarity with host emulation, diagnostic logging and system-level troubleshooting.
Preferred: experience working in an Agile or Scrum environment.
Preferred: experience in regulated product development, particularly medical devices.
Preferred: familiarity with medical imaging equipment such as SPECT, PET or other advanced imaging systems.
Preferred: experience working with electrical, mechanical and systems engineering teams across the product development lifecycle.
