Description

The company makes memory and storage products and is building out its AI capabilities.

The team needs more engineers to support growth in the SMAI Data Science group and to expand software support for Technology Development and AI enablement.

The role centres on building applications where AI is part of both the development workflow and the systems that ship, with a focus on production-grade reliability.

The work goes beyond using AI coding assistants and aims to shorten development and feedback cycles by automating routine tasks and embedding intelligence into workflows and delivered applications.

Responsibilities

  • Shape platform direction through architecture decisions, code reviews, and shared engineering standards.
  • Own full stack features from design through build, testing, deployment, observability, and ongoing support.
  • Work with business teams to turn their requirements into scalable software.
  • Build custom AI agents for task automation, decision support, summarization, multi-step reasoning, and guided execution.
  • Prototype quickly through prompt engineering and vibe coding.
  • Build and connect systems using the Model Context Protocol (MCP) so models, tools, and agents share structured context and interoperate without hard-coded links.
  • Expose tools and capabilities to LLM-based agents.
  • Connect applications to internal and external AI services such as LLMs, embeddings, search, and tools through well-designed APIs.
  • Harden AI components for 24x7 critical physical manufacturing systems, covering reliability, resiliency, latency, performance, security, permissions, data boundaries, observability, and maintainability.
  • Apply retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems where they fit.
  • Use AI tools for code generation, refactoring, tests, and documentation, then check and refine the output and apply your own judgment on architecture, correctness, and long-term upkeep.
  • Gather and analyse requirements to understand software domains, interfaces, and characteristics.
  • Write code in programming, scripting, and database languages, and support testing, deployment, maintenance, and evolution.
  • Follow coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operational practices.

Requirements

  • Solid grounding in object-oriented design, clean code, and testing strategy, with an eye on long-term maintainability.
  • Proven experience building and running production backend or full stack systems, including API design, service integration, and data persistence.
  • Ability to design and evolve scalable architectures, weighing performance, reliability, security, and developer productivity.
  • Experience with cloud-native environments, including CI/CD pipelines, containerised deployments, and modern operations.
  • Understanding of data modelling and of relational and non-relational storage, and the judgment to choose the right one.
  • A record of owning software end to end and working across engineering and business teams.
  • Experience with C, ASP.NET, Angular, RESTful APIs, SQL and NoSQL databases, and Kubernetes-based platforms.
  • Experience designing and building custom AI agents that go beyond simple chat, including developing agent skills.
  • Working knowledge of prompt engineering, vibe coding, context window management, and chain-of-thought design.
  • Experience integrating systems through MCP or an equivalent structured agent and tool interface, with a firm grasp of prompt design and tool invocation.
  • Ability to reason about hallucination risk, failure modes, permissions, and guardrails in AI-enabled systems, plus hands-on work with RAG-based systems.
  • Preferred: Experience using AI-enabled development practices to speed up engineering work and raise productivity.
  • Preferred: Track record of critically assessing AI output and refining it to production standard.
  • Preferred: Experience building interoperable AI systems without hard-coded integrations.
  • Preferred: Understanding of running AI in critical environments where reliability and performance are demanding.
