Description

The company is an engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing partner for major global brands, with 60 years in the industry and more than 100 sites worldwide.

The team is building next-generation embedded Android and Linux platforms for professional products sold worldwide. This is a long-term contract for an experienced senior engineer working as an independent contractor on a B2B basis.

Your work will affect commercially deployed products in enterprise, education, conferencing, and professional settings, where stability, multimedia quality, connectivity, performance, and hardware and software integration are visible to end users.

This role sits low in the Android platform rather than in app development. You will work near the hardware and across the full Android stack on BSP work, AOSP customization, HAL integration, native components, debugging, optimization, and system-level issues.

You will take on hard technical problems, often without an obvious answer. That means tracing root causes across several layers and delivering solid fixes, from analysis through implementation and validation.

You will work with hardware, firmware, Android, Linux, and product engineers across several countries and act as a senior Android platform specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Build and customize AOSP-based platform software for embedded audio devices.
  • Work on the Android BSP, HAL layers, native C/C++ code, JNI and NDK integration, and system services.
  • Help upgrade the platform to newer Android releases.
  • Integrate and troubleshoot hardware interfaces, peripheral drivers, and Linux kernel components.
  • Debug boot, performance, memory, power, threading, IPC, and hardware communication problems.
  • Support board bring-up and platform validation on ARM, Qualcomm-based, and other embedded architectures.
  • Work with hardware, software, and product teams to deliver stable embedded Android platforms.
  • Review designs and code, and advise less experienced engineers when needed.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of embedded software development, including at least 2 years on Embedded Android, AOSP, or Android platform-level work.
  • Strong C/C++ skills for native, low-level, and performance-sensitive software.
  • Hands-on experience with Android BSP, AOSP build systems, HAL architecture, HIDL/AIDL, Android.bp/Android.mk, Soong/Ninja, and system services.
  • Experience with the Android NDK, JNI, Binder, sockets, shared memory, or other IPC mechanisms.
  • Solid knowledge of embedded Linux, Linux kernel interfaces, device drivers, and hardware communication.
  • Experience debugging with tools such as ADB, GDB, Valgrind, Systrace/Perfetto, Wireshark, protocol analyzers, or similar.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design, SOLID principles, version control, and structured development and release workflows.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.

Conditions

Engagement is on a B2B basis as an independent contractor under a remote cooperation model.

You decide how, when, and where you deliver the work, within project requirements and agreed deliverables.

The engagement is long-term with clearly defined technical goals.

Equal opportunity applies to all applicants.

Benefits

  • Work on engineering projects for market-leading global brands.
  • Collaborate with experienced specialists across different countries.
  • Work with modern technologies and complex embedded and Android challenges.
  • Influence technical decisions and share your knowledge on products used around the world.
