Description

The company has spent more than 25 years working on computer graphics, PC gaming, and accelerated computing. Compute and AI now shape how images are made, and agent-based tools are changing how demanding, performance-critical software gets built. The team works where these shifts meet, pushing production graphics forward across compute graphics, automotive, robotics, and consumer platforms, and building new methods for the systems behind them.

The company is looking for a deeply technical Senior Director of System Software Engineering to run a world-class software organization. The role calls for sound judgment and a calm hand as technology and engineering practices change. You will manage experienced managers and engineers who own graphics drivers and APIs, platform integration, and the compilers and shading languages behind them, including Slang. Your job is to expand what graphics can do while leading teams through change, keeping production commitments on track, and setting up an agentic engineering model that measurably improves development speed, performance, reliability, and production quality.

The role is open until at least November 6, 2026. It is an existing vacancy. The company uses AI tools in parts of its recruiting process.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical strategy, roadmaps, and priorities, weighing new graphics capabilities against current product commitments.
  • Shape hardware/software co-design and the development of graphics APIs, compilers, and shading languages so developers gain new capabilities.
  • Build an AI-friendly development model for implementation, debugging, and validation, and refine and extend it across teams using production results.
  • Own delivery of Vulkan, OpenGL, and CUDA-based graphics software, from GPU and SoC enablement through integration, optimization, validation, and release, including automotive graphics safety commitments.
  • Lead engineering partnerships inside and outside the company, agreeing on requirements, component ownership, integration plans, and release commitments.
  • Hire, grow, and keep strong engineering leaders, and foster technical excellence, accountability, inclusion, and innovation.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Graphics, or equivalent experience.
  • 15+ years of relevant management experience in system software, graphics, GPU, or related platform engineering, including 8+ years leading engineering teams of senior individual contributors and managers.
  • Deep expertise in graphics system software, with substantial work on drivers, APIs, compilers, or shading languages.
  • Strong knowledge of GPU architecture, graphics and compute pipelines, operating systems, and hardware/software interfaces, plus a C/C++ systems programming background.
  • A proven record leading software organizations through complex product cycles and shipping high-performance, production-quality systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in agentic software development, with measurable results and a history of building team expertise.
  • Sound technical judgment and communication skills, with a proven ability to build engineering partnerships and resolve technical disagreements.
  • Nice to have: experience with console platforms, pre-silicon validation, or new hardware bring-up.
  • Nice to have: experience taking compute-based graphics or neural rendering from early development into production.
  • Nice to have: experience leading an open source project, including technical direction, releases, and work with external contributors.
  • Nice to have: functional safety experience in automotive or other safety-critical software, such as ISO 26262, ASIL requirements, traceability, verification evidence, or safety-qualified releases.
