Description

The company's space sector is hiring a Software Architect at Level 6 to work in Redondo Beach, California.

The company works on flight and ground systems for space missions, and this role centers on embedded and real-time systems.

You will support their architecture, development and lifecycle management, and you need to understand how system requirements shape design.

You have shown you can define and evolve software architectures, and you bring strong troubleshooting skills for complex systems.

Responsibilities

  • Act as technical lead and architect for flight and ground systems on space missions.
  • Own the overall program architecture across flight and ground software, guiding design work with engineers on the integrated product teams.
  • Coach and align development teams, helping them clear technical blockers and make architecture decisions.
  • Lead technical solutioning, covering software architecture, technology selection and verification planning against requirements.
  • Define, document and evolve end-to-end software architectures, and lead work across software, systems engineering, hardware, and integration and test.
  • Run technical planning and trade studies that weigh performance, cost, risk and supportability.
  • Evaluate and recommend new frameworks and tools that reduce core technical risk.
  • Make system-wide trade-off and scalability decisions so requirements become complete solutions that fit technical, schedule and cost limits.
  • Write architecture, design, verification, user and training documents, and brief internal leadership and customers.
  • Work closely with other projects on security architecture, and with external partners and customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus 14 years of relevant experience, or a Master's in a STEM field plus 12 years, or a PhD in a STEM field plus 10 years.
  • Active SCI access at the time you apply.
  • Experience leading a software team.
  • Proficiency across the full software development cycle, from requirements through testing.
  • Background in software development, design and architecture for complex systems.
  • Experience developing ground software, flight software, or both.
  • Preferred: experience with Agile software practices.
  • Preferred: expert-level embedded C/C++ development.
  • Preferred: extensive work with real-time operating systems such as VxWorks.
  • Preferred: experience building software with CI/CD pipeline tools such as Jenkins.
  • Preferred: skill in creating and maintaining thorough software documentation throughout the lifecycle.
  • Preferred: experience supporting or leading proposal work.
  • Preferred: ability to write system requirements and make trade-offs in code efficiency, memory use and cost.
