Description

The city's technology office uses technology to expand access to affordable broadband, defend against cyber threats and build digital government services.

This senior role sits in the Infrastructure Management division. You will provide site reliability engineering for all current and new automation services and write, update and maintain code.

Responsibilities

  • Watch CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes clusters and application health dashboards. Fix low and medium alerts using documented steps, and pass complex incidents to senior DevOps staff.
  • Write, update and maintain basic scripts, YAML configs and Terraform or Ansible modules under senior guidance for deployment and infrastructure changes.
  • Run smoke tests on deployments in dev and staging, and confirm that monitoring, logging and alerts still work after code or config changes.
  • Join design sessions and code reviews with senior engineers. Build skills in Linux, containers, Git, infrastructure as code and observability tools while following team standards and change control.
  • Keep the wiki, runbooks, deployment guides and troubleshooting documentation current so knowledge is shared and incidents are resolved faster.
  • Take on special projects and initiatives as assigned.

Requirements

  • Option 1: a master's degree in computer science from an accredited college or university, plus 3 years of full-time, progressively more responsible, satisfactory IT experience in applications development, systems development, data communications and networking, database administration, data processing or user services. At least 18 months of that must be in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity in those areas, or in supervising staff who do that work.
  • Option 2: a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, plus 4 years of the same kind of experience described in option 1.
  • Option 3: a four-year high school diploma or equivalent, plus 6 years of the same kind of experience described in option 1.
  • Option 4: a mix of education and experience equivalent to options 1, 2 or 3. All candidates need at least a four-year high school diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of experience as in option 1, including the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience.
  • Without a bachelor's degree, undergraduate credits can replace up to 2 years of IT experience at 30 semester credits per 6 months. Graduate computer science credits can replace up to 1 year of IT experience at 30 graduate semester credits per year. Neither type of credit can replace the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience.
